Shepherd Hopes New Whip Lands him $30,000 in the All-Star Showdown For Immediate Release by K.P. Bakersfield, CA: Three-time Madera Speedway Nut Up Pro Late Mod...el Series Champion Buddy Shepherd has entered the 2021 "Sunrise Ford All-Star Showdown presented by the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame at Irwindale Speedway. The $30,000-to-win event will be the season opener for the Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series, and will take place on February 6th. This will be Shepherd’s second SRL start at Irwindale, after making his debut appearance in July of 2020, with a sixth-place effort. Shepherd is currently making his way back to Bakersfield, after making the long haul to Michigan to pick up their new VanDoorn Racing Development Super Late Model. Shepherd is accustomed to the VanDoorn Super Late Model's, having driven them prior to the 2020 season, He had great success in them, racing for Wilson Motorsports. He scored his lone SRL victory at Madera Speedway with the VanDoorn Super Late Model in 2017. He also scored a runner-up finish in the 2018 Winter Showdown at Kern County Raceway, finishing behind Kyle Busch and holding of Daniel Hemric. In his SRL career, Shepherd has 15 starts with the win, seven top-five and 12 top-10 finishes. The 2016 Kern County Raceway Late Model Champion is excited to hit the ground running at Irwindale, in his new ride. I'm super pumped about the new whip, and being back in a Vandoorn Racing Development car for the 2021 season, Shepherd declared. The car is ready to hit the track, and we will put her first laps on her in practice, before the race. The opportunity to participate in a big money event like this is exciting for the 21-year-old driver. With previous winner’s such as Derek Thorn, Ron Breese Jr., Auggie Vidovich, Eric Holmes, Tim Schendel, Greg Pursley, Travis Thirkettle, and Rip Michaels in the Super Late Models, it has been a challenging event to finish first. Add to that winners like Joey Logano, Austin Cameron, David Gilliland, Jason Bowles and Matt Kobyluck in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, winning the event is a big deal. Of course, winning $30,000 would also be a big deal, for the small team from Bakersfield, CA. For our little team, that we could win $30,000, would go a long way for us to help pay for expenses, to get to a few more races on the SRL schedule this season. It would be the biggest win of my career so far. With a small team, racing in one of the most competitive Super Late Model Series in the country, it is important to have help with both sponsorship and with building and maintenance on the car. Shepherd is thankful for the group that helps him get to the track at each event. I can't thank everyone who is involved, and helps me out enough, Shepherd declared. With the help of Bob Bruncati and the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame, the 2021 Sunrise Ford All-Star Showdown 200 will pay $30,000 to the winner of the 200-lap feature event at Irwindale Speedway. The Spears Pro Late Models presented by Sigma Performance Services, as well as the Spears Modified Series will join the action, racing for $15,000 and $5,000, respectively. An optional Test Day is slated for Thursday, with the official Practice Day getting underway on Friday. Saturday will see the Super Late Models practice from 11:45 AM to 12:30 PM, with Qualifying for all divisions beginning at 2:30 PM. The Modifieds will go first followed by the Pro Late Models and Super Late Models. Opening Ceremonies are slated for 4:30 PM, with B-Main Events set for 5:00 PM. The Pro Late Model Showdown 150, Modified All-Star Showdown 100, and the Sunrise Ford All-Star Showdown 200 will follow. The Modifieds and Pro Late Models are scheduled for the inner 1/3-mile oval, while the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series will see action on the -mile. For those unable to attend, the event will be shown live at www.SpearsRacing.TV and on a delayed basis on MAVTV.
