As Ron Howard’s Rebuilding Paradise film is released today, I want folks - especially those who aren’t in Paradise daily - to know that this Community has com...e, oh, so much further since the film was completed nearly a year ago. - Our water is NOT, and arguably never was poisoned and, in any case, the damaged lines have nearly been completely replaced. - The massive amounts of debris generated by the Camp Fire was removed in less than a year! - Nearly 300 homes have been rebuilt with Certificates of Occupancy, with almost 1,300 building permit applications received. - An estimated 3,500-5,000 residents are living in Paradise drinking the freshest, tastiest water; living under the most gorgeous of blue skies; and enjoying some of the most spectacular views on the planet! Pandemic? Pffft! The majority of our 200 +/-businesses that have reopened are considered essential with the most prevalent being construction. We have grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, and even a shoe store and a women’s clothing boutique! Paradise has a LOT of work to do. For example, we’re just beginning the burnt tree removal process, a program that Paradise is responsible for creating that has never been done before. We have a lot of decisions to make and we’re coming up on some difficult timelines. But, as I’ve been saying since that fateful day, We’ll figure it out! As I told each reporter that I spoke with in the days following 11/8/18, the fire is the thing that happened, the real story is our recovery. This Community demonstrates that every day! Paradise will be the first rural community with high speed internet throughout. Our evacuation routes and plans will be exemplary. Our schools will be state-of-the-art. Our businesses will flourish with our new wastewater system. The majority of our homes will be built to current WUI standards, making us the most fire-safe and fire-wise Community in the world! What we can all look forward to is a beautiful Community whose indomitable spirit resides within its residents and who come together to rise above any challenge. # # # # #
