We've just uploaded a video about leafcutter bees to our YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/FHQ9MnwZ24Q. Hope you find it useful!
Insect photography can be a fun but challenging endeavor, and I enjoy seeing so many of you taking pictures at the Haven. I suspect many of you are like me and are still sorting through this year's photos, so this is a good opportunity to remind everyone of the Haven's photography and video policies. In line with UC Davis policies, commercial use of Haven images requires prior approval. Amateurs are welcome to shoot for personal use. When you show off your best shots on socia...l media, we request attribution to the Haven as the location of your images. We also love it if you tag us so we can see your images. What's not OK is to share images without location credit, or to provide them for posting on commercial sites. I recently saw images of the Haven on the viewer submissions section of a gardening program presented as having come from the viewer's own garden. Please don't this. You'll find our complete photo and video policy here: https://beegarden.ucdavis.edu//HBH-photo-and-video-policie Thanks, everyone. I look forward to teaching our bee photography class at the garden once it's safe to do so.
Due to new coronavirus restrictions and increasing disease incidence in the communities surrounding the Haven, we have suspended our guided tour program. The garden remains open daily EXCEPT for Tuesday mornings until 10am and Thursday mornings until noon. These closures allow us to conduct research and do garden maintenance while maintaining physical distance. Thank you for your understanding.
Just a reminder that the Haven remains open. Yolo County's updated coronavirus restrictions on museums applies only to indoor museums. I hope you'll be able to stop by this long weekend. Here are some red, white, and blue bee flowers to help you celebrate: 'Hot Lips' sage, 'Whirling Butterflies' gaura, and 'Little Carlow' aster.
I'm pleased to report that we have received approval to resume guided tours of the Haven. Tours will be limited to groups of six and visitors will be expected to practice physical distancing. Tours are now also available in Spanish. For complete details and to view the available times, please visit our web page: https://beegarden.ucdavis.edu/visit-us/reservation/
It's National Pollinator Week, and I'm pleased to report that guided tours will be returning to the Haven. We've received approval to start tours again, but there will be restrictions on the group size and activities. Proper physical distance will also need to be observed. And thanks to the schedule and language skills of our student intern Andrea Suarez, we'll be offering weekend tours and tours in Spanish. Details will be posted this week on our web page: http://beegarden.ucdavis.edu.
