Going to Homeless Youth Alliance I was always met in an engaging and empathetic way that made me feel human. Learn about the work we do in this beautiful video, created for SFDPH’s Drug User Health Symposium. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PjDw_KENFQ
Hey all, it's #GivingTuesday, which we're always glad falls at this time of year. The nights are getting much colder, and we always see an uptick in folks asking us for tarps, sleeping bags, socks, hand warmers, and emergen-c. During the pandemic, it's even more important that we help our unhoused neighbors stay healthy and warm, but that gear is not cheap. Can you lend us a hand? Your donations could do the following: -$10 buys 40 sets of toothbrushes, floss, and toothpaste... - $20 gets 4 cold weather packs, with a poncho, handwarmers, and a tarp - $30 purchases 25 pairs of socks - $500 pays for 33 sleeping bags Donations can be made directly here: https://homelessyouthalliance.networkforgood.com/ Thank you, as always, for your support!
Homeless Youth Alliance is hiring! Come work with us at our safe sleeping village, aka Community Action Made for People (CAMP). Please share with your networks. More details and instructions on how to apply can be found here: http://www.homelessyouthalliance.org/job-opportunities
Earlier this year a bright light in San Francisco, Courtney Brousseau, was shot and killed in the Mission. His sudden death was shocking to all who knew him. He was dedicated to community service, and was a regular monthly donor to HYA. In the months since he passed, we’ve seen an outpouring of love and donations for our organization. To date, more than $10,000 has been gifted to HYA in his memory. We’re grateful for what he brought to this city, and to his community for sharing his vision in creating a more equitable and loving San Francisco. Rest in power, Courtney.
Took a break on my admin day in Oakland today to meet up with @jeremycastro T-Masks Brand Marinade Beast Mode Flagship Store Marshawn Lynch and do some outreach at the giraffe encampment (I do outreach here often cause it’s close to my house). These allies kicked down 1,500 masks for Homeless Youth Alliance to give out to our people. This is community taking care of community. Thank y’all and Happy Birthday to Jeremy today. Thank you to Errico Bachicha for the hook up!
Curious what we've been up to during this COVID-19 chaos? The rad folks behind the Harm Reduction Coalition made this short video of us at work. https://youtu.be/gMqazKMofHs
Because we were a) not familiar with this reporter and b) so busy working, I sat out doing an interview. Media is a delicate thing that often complicates relationships, increases tension, and is used as a weapon of blame and hostility. I am grateful to Coalition on Homelessness, Christin Evans and Dean Preston for their words, well done. People need housing. Until the City moves forward with putting folks in hotels, creating safe spaces to set up tents is the best way to go.
