Saddened on the news of the passing of one of our beloved members of the Holy Cross congregation: Rudolph "Rudi" W. Petersen Jr "O Sovereign Lord Christ, deliver your servant, Rudoulph, from all evil, and set him free from every bond; that he may... rest with all your saints in the eternal habitations; where with the Father and the Holy Spirit you live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Let us also pray for all who mourn, that they may cast their care on God, and know the consolation of his love." https://www.dignitymemorial.com//clovis-ca/rudolph-peterse

October 4, 2020 My Dear Church Family, For those of you who were unable to attend Mass today at Holy Cross (either in person or via our Live Stream) I need to share with you an announcement that I made at the end of the service. ... As you know, I have struggled with the poor air quality here in the Central Valley ever since moving to CA almost 12 years ago (how did 12 years go by so fast???). That struggle has become harder and harder as each year passed by. All the fires this year have made it especially difficult for me. After praying long and hard Peppy and I decided to heed the advise of my doctors and move out of the valley to cleaner air. We put our house on the market for one weekend and it sold to the first family to look at it. Our closing date is October 23, so that means that my last Sunday at Holy Cross will be October 18. Please know that this decision was made solely for health reasons. I have not been called to another church nor are we unhappy at Holy Cross in fact we couldn’t be happier with our ministry at Holy Cross, but the poor air quality is literally killing me. Last week I met first with Bishop Eric and then our vestry before making the announcement at the end of Mass today. The bishop has assured us that he will make the full resources of the diocese available to Holy Cross as this transition takes place. He will personally lead as many services as his schedule allows starting with October 25 and November 1, and will work with the vestry to find steady supply and/or interim clergy. Dcn. Melinda has also offered to assist from time-to-time as needed. Clergy transition is never completely easy or even happy, but I know that the Lord already knows who will take my place as your next rector and when that will be. We just need to be faithful and patient, and we need to trust in the Lord. I have been honored and privileged to have been your priest and will miss each and every one of you. Peppy and I love you all very much, and our Holy Cross Family will always have a very special place in our hearts. Andrew will be moving with us and we are so happy about that I don’t know what we would do if he wasn’t going with us. Please keep us in your prayers as we make the 2,500 drive to the Winston-Salem, NC region with three vehicles and three cats. We don’t yet have a new address but are looking for a house as we speak. We will of course share our new mailing address as soon as we know. We also do not have positions lined up in NC but we know that the Lord will open doors as he sees fit. I very much look forward to worshipping with y’all (that’s a NC thing) and hope you will be able to join us these next two Sundays. On my last Sunday (October 18) I will have the pleasure of baptizing Michaela Garza and her two boys, Michael and Dominick, during our 9:30am service. It will be a glorious day! In Christ, Fr. Michael+ The Rev’d Fr. Michael P. Sclafani, SSC Holy Cross Anglican Church
