Marcia R. Jennings became active in the Woman's Club about the same time I did. She has been enthusiastic and supportive in all the things we've done together. Her focus has been literacy and she served as Book Section Chair for about 5 years. Well, anyway, today is her birthday. Happy birthday, Marcia. I look forward to our friendship for many, MANY years to come. - Deborah

Happy New Year, my lovelies. First thing, I want to thank you all for hanging in there with the Woman's Club of Holtville. Like everything else, we have had to make sacrifices due to the pandemic. We have not been able to meet as a whole for 9 months. During that time we missed two spaghetti dinners, a yard sale, our first ever breakfast meeting, Scholarship luncheon (but we were able to give out the scholarships), a garden section outing (I think they had one planned), dist...rict convention in Palm Springs, book section meetings, Kid Night Bunco, bridge luncheon, and lots of bridge nights. We are doing OK financially, but we do need to be careful with our spending. We recently had Todd Thornburg come in and look at our irrigation system because we were getting horrendous water bills again. Some of the sprinklers needed new heads, the timer was finally reset correctly. (Somehow it was cycling three times through the program before shutting off. That's a lot of water.) The grass does look healthy, though. We mutually decided to postpone our election of officers until we can meet as a group. That's fine, but we will have to put an ex post facto clause in our bylaws to provide for this contingency in the future. We have lost too many of our friends during this lockdown. It hurts that we were not given the chance to say goodbye to them. We will definitely do that at our first meeting when we start back up. IT IS TIME FOR DUES. $40 for the year. You may mail them to the Club's address: Woman's Club of Holtville, P.O. Box 465, Holtville. Love to all of you. Stay healthy. -Deborah https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJKMji2688M See more

Due to new COVID-19 restrictions, we will not be having book section meeting this month. Hopefully, 2021 will see things open up a bit.

Ladies, I am heartbroken to report to you that our wonderful Virginia Munger has passed. She apparently had COVID and was not strong enough to fight it. Virginia stated many times that she did not want any services; but if the family does plan something in her memory, I will let you know. Stay healthy my dear friends. - Deborah (The accompanying photos were taken on her 103rd birthday as she was getting ready to play bridge.)

My Thoughts on Thanksgiving 2020 It is interesting that this COVID-19 lockdown has acted like an uninvited, unexpected Marie Kondo. We have stripped away the busywork baggage of our lives and pared it down to the basics. That meeting that I JUST HAD to go to? Appears it wasn't so important after all. The job/position in which I was so indispensable? Never mind; stay home. I have managed to cut my trips to the store down to once every two weeks instead of every five days or so.... I think I was about four weeks into the lockdown before I ordered take-out food. I have gone as long as four days without changing out of my pajamas. So, inadvertently, I have adopted the Thoreau/Kendo lifestyle, "Simplify, simplify, simplify." What it has brought home to me, to all of us, is how important my loved ones are to me. And I to them. More than anything else I have had to put aside during this pandemic, personal, physical contact is the most missed and most craved for. On this unusual Thanksgiving, while you are breaking bread with your loved ones (physically or virtually) take a moment to reflect on those we have lost this year; there have been far too many. Think of the love and joy they brought into our lives. Think how our memories of them will make us smile after the pain of loss has receded a bit. We should also take a moment to tell our families and friends how important, how vital they are to our well-being. These are things that are said every Thanksgiving, but this year they take on a deeper meaning, a more somber interpretation perhaps. I will close with a thank you to all who enrich my life with laughter, love, and friendship. You are the reason I am Thankful. See more

Ladies, we get to be grateful a day before Thanksgiving. Why? Because on this special day we have THREE birthdays. Best wishes and lots of love to Jeannette Monroy, Donna Schoneman, and Debra Fargo.
