How To Respond Rather Than React To Life’s Challenges Qi Gong is based on an important awareness of our relationship to the external world: We don’t always have power over what happens around us, but we have a lot of power in what happens within us. Qi Gong is the practice of cultivating our personal power so we can show up as our best selves throughout all of life’s experiences. When it comes to our well-being, one of the most important areas for us to examine is how we resp...ond to difficult situations. While we like to believe that we are always in control of how we show up, this is usually not the case for most individuals. Beyond our conscious mind lies myriad elements that influence our subconscious. Ultimately, that is what determines how we respond to the circumstances that life brings us. This blog post will discuss how we can cultivate self-awareness in order to respond to life in a way that reflects our truest self: https://holdenqigong.medium.com/how-to-respond-rather-than-

Lee on Qi Gong for Lung and Heart Problems "Practicing Qi Gong everyday can be very beneficial for the heart and COPD. When your body is out of stress, when you can relax - you have amazing healing capabilities within you. That's what we want to get turned on and lit up within you. We want your body's natural healing power to rebalance: to clear and get rid of blockages, to transform stagnation, get things circulating and then, we set up the right context within you for that ...natural healing power to express itself. It will do so especially to the heart and the lungs when we are breathing slow, breathing deep. Slow deep breathing is going to be very beneficial to the heart because when you breathe deep, your diaphragm is going to act like a second pump. It takes pressure off the heart so - that deep slow abdominal breathing that we do - will really open up the thoracic cavity, benefit the lungs, and take pressure off the heart so your circulation improves. And all of the sudden everything's working and revved up into a frequency that is in alignment with your optimal health and vitality. So, for those things, I would say take a look at Qi Gong for Better Breathing and Qi Gong for a Healthy Heart. Alternate those two routines and do them once or twice a week each and that will be wonderful, a very specific set of routines for those ailments." - Lee Holden P.S. How to practice Qi Gong in the cold (Lee answers) I have been wondering about something a lot lately (it's Max, by the way. I help write these posts) I've been wondering if there's any benefit to practicing Qi Gong in the cold.... So I decided to ask Lee his thoughts. Specifically, I wanted to know... Are there any benefits to practicing Qi Gong in the cold? And if there are benefits to practicing Qi Gong in the cold How could I practice in the cold in a healthy way? Here is Lee's answer: "Cold training is a bit controversial. For example, some schools of thought say don't practice outside while it's windy and cold. That said, there are great benefits to cold training, especially doing breathwork while in cold water. Cold training is like weight lifting. It adds stress to the system, and adding that stress creates strength if done correctly. Practice Qi Gong in the cold only if you are feeling strong. Wear high-quality, weather-resistant clothing. Do cold training for a short amount of time to start with. Focus on the breath. If there's interest, I'll teach some cold training at some point in the future." After reading Lee's response, I think I'm going to try cold training myself. I've only ever practiced Qi Gong either indoors or outside when it's sunny and warm, so it'll be a new adventure. I'll probably practice for about 10 minutes the first time to see how my body and mind react. As Lee said, adding a bit of healthy stress to my system can make me stronger. Here's to trying new things! Talk soon, Max and The Holden QiGong Team P.S. Please only practice Qi Gong in the cold if you feel strong. If you don't feel like your system is particularly strong, stick to practicing indoors until you build strength. As always, listen to your own body. I might do really well practicing in the cold, where you might not. Always, pay attention to what works for you and your body. P.P.S. Would you be interested in learning how to do some gentle exercises in the cold with Lee?
