We have been on a wild ride this past year with ups and downs, twists and turns. The ONLY way we have been able to stay on track is through the dedication and inspiration of our amazing crew. We have asked them to prioritize constantly changing safety protocols, take the best care of our customers and make numerous adjustments under extremely unusual circumstances. And they have done so with professionalism, grace and the the friendliest hospitality in the business. I couldn't be prouder or more appreciative on this #EmployeeAppreciationDay! It's been a smokey couple of weeks, so here is a breath of fresh air for your Monday. Check out our new "Welcome Wall" at Hobee's Mountain View created by none other than Bobodesignstudio. We love Angie's work and her sparkly personality. And I mean look at that coffeecake, you can almost taste it! We can't wait for you see it in person.

We are proud to have been able to provide 1228 meals and comfort to those evacuated from our beloved Santa Cruz Mountains and coastal communities over the past 2 weeks. These neighbors have shared their experiences with us. Stories of heartbreak and hope, exhaustion and resilience. We will continue to find ways to support the recovery, thankfully many evacuees have been able to return home. This idea was inspired by 2 amazing women, both named Grace. I believe that was no ac...cident. And it has been supported financially by our generous customers, friends and previous employees who immediately reached out to see how they can help. Our GoFundMe will be closed tomorrow, and we couldn't be more grateful for the kindness and goodwill. Our crew has welcomed these new friends and neighbors with hospitality and concern. We've all appreciated the opportunity to contribute something positive when times are tough.

Well the cat's out of the bag. If you are thinking of ordering, next week Hobee's is donating $10.00 from each Blueberry Coffeecake order on Goldbelly to local wildfire relief efforts. Get your fix and help some folks. Must give credit where credit is due. I had never heard of Goldbelly until Michelle Tipton-Burton at a powerful professional women's networking mixer (otherwise known as a happy hour Zoom with my high school besties) told me about it when I mentioned that we w...ere trying to figure out the logistics of shipping coffeecake. I looked it up and promptly handed the project off to our administrative super star Zoe Dorworth. She gets 100% credit for making it happen. Turns out the Goldbelly folks were familiar with Hobee's Blueberry Coffeecake from their time at Y Combinator in Mountain View. Zoe worked tirelessly to get the project off of the ground and Misael Morales, Jan Ra and El Marín and the team at Hobee's Sunnyvale have been stellar in baking, wrapping and shipping the Best Darn Coffeecake In Town ever since. It's a dream come true for us at Hobee's!

Since our post 3 days ago about offering breakfast meals to evacuees from the various wildland fires surrounding our little valley, our crew has stepped up in a BIG way to provide comfort, community and coffeecake to over 800 people. I couldn't be prouder of my team for their ability to show such compassion and hospitality during such a chaotic time. Many thanks go to Edward Gerard Fike, Connie Durant and Peter Taber for instilling such a legacy of community spirit into the ...DNA of Hobee's, and into me. Thank you to my husband Daniel Chijate for supporting my crazy ideas. Special thanks also go to my daughter Antonia Chijate who spread the word of what we are doing with her Apple Valley Fair team on a training call yesterday, and Gigi Chijate for setting up a GoFundMe to handle all of the requests from our regular customers who want to pitch in with the efforts.
