We have the sad news that someone you may have met in your visits to Downtown Campbell recently passed away. Dani worked at Bombshell Boutique, Orchard Valley Coffee, and possibly some other shops too. If you knew Dani and want to pitch in a little something to help the family with funeral expenses, please see this post from Bombshell Boutique.

The news that Stripes Boutique is closing was a terrible way for Downtown Campbell to start 2021, but in the end it should be the best for Elise and her family. Elise wasn't just the owner of a popular shop of artisan children's clothing for over 8 years, she was a member of the Downtown Campbell Business Association's board and someone who actively contributed to the culture of our Downtown. Downtown Campbell will be diminished in her absence. We wish Elise all the love in ...the world and hope that the broken pieces of one dream will find their way into a mosaic more beautiful than the original objects that were used to make it. Thank you for the last 8+ years, Elise. Here's a word of gratitude and hopes of better days ahead. https://www.facebook.com/BombshellCookie/posts/10222644661117830

We have wonderful news about the end of the end of the Governor's Stay-at-Home order... or maybe it's terrible. Whatever it is, most people are confused and many are angry about its abrupt end. Let's all take a step back and unpack why the order was ended and what it means. The recently terminated Stay-at-Home order was a blunt instrument deployed at a moment of great urgency and was at least in part designed to fight the effects of holiday travel and gatherings exacerbating ...Continue reading

As you know, it has been a very tough winter for restaurants with the December 2020 Shelter-in-Place order requiring restaurants to close outdoor dining. A guest videography team wanted to do something nice for restaurant businesses struggling in the Covid-19 pandemic and they chose Downtown Campbell as the location to shoot a short promotional video. The SeeFood App team did a wonderful video featuring Downtown Campbell restaurants and gave our eateries a chance to express their gratitude for the support that you've given us in 2020. That so many of our eateries survived 2020 is a testament to how much our community has been there for us. To everyone who's been ordering take-out to keep our restaurants alive, we cannot thank you enough.

Patios and parklets are open this weekend and so long as the infection rate in Santa Clara County remains modest, there’s limited indoor dining and entertainment open as well. If you want to avoid people as much as possible, afternoons are your time. Under our current infection level, bars can now operate outdoors without requiring food purchase and entertainment venues like LvL Up arcade are allowed to open at reduced capacities. ... Remember that just because something is allowed does not mean it is entirely safe. Precautions are certainly enacted to make all indoor services as safe as possible, but we’re still counting on you to wear masks correctly and think about your safety, our safety, and the safety of everyone you pass on the street. Make smart choices and assume that anyone you encounter outside of your home is potentially contagious if you want our dining rooms and other indoor activities to remain available. Thanks for riding out these crazy times with us.

Normally on Thanksgiving, I publish photos that I take of Downtown Campbell entirely emptied of its usual vitality as a counterfactual exercise of gratitude to remember all the things we have going for us. This year, I'm doing the opposite. I've dug into my archives to pull up photos from better days to remember the traditions that define who we are in a year when we've been entirely unable to observe any of these traditions that define who we are. These are our traditions. ...They are great traditions and great traditions are not muted when unspoken nor forgotten when unseen. Many of you have been forgoing your usual traditions this year too and we thank you for the care and love of your community expressed by your sacrifices. The end of the tunnel is coming and on the other side there is a light. Getting to it will still be difficult, but we hold fast and wait together. It is dark now, but your suffering will have meaning soon. Find strength. Continue on. Photos: Sheldon Chang, DowntownCampbell.com editor

Lots of people are taking advantage of the lowered infection rates in Santa Clara County to venture out a little more. Also with limited indoor dining resuming as of this week, Downtown Campbell at night doesn’t feel quite as pandemic as it did a few months ago (but daytime is still pretty quiet*). Because of the increased foot traffic, it is more important than ever to always wear your mask except when you’re actually having a meal. This includes walking around, standing in ...line, or when seated at a table before food or drinks arrive. Most people are doing this right and we want to thank you for your support as customers, for having the discipline that allowed us to open more, and for showing concern about the safety of our shopkeeps and workers. *-Come in the afternoon if you want to avoid people. It’s fairly quiet even on weekends around mid-afternoon. Monday is quietest full stop as some spots don’t even open on Mondays.

Downtown Campbell 20.07.2020

This week, Santa Clara County announced that we've moved into the Orange Tier of California's Covid-19 guidelines, which loosens restrictions enough that small indoor gatherings and limited capacity indoor dining will be allowed again. Some people will read this and think, "This is a terrible idea" and others will think "YES! I can't wait!" For the "terrible idea" people, your caution is understood. Outdoor options, takeout, and curbside services will continue to be offered. ...Keep in mind that Santa Clara County's public health policies have been some of the strictest in the nation. They're not going to allow anything reckless. Each business offering indoor services will have additional guidelines they're required to follow to keep risks as low as possible and some businesses are also taking additional steps on their own. Businesses have every motivation to make this work so we don't end up on a fast track right back to the Red Tier. Those of you who can't wait to get inside a restaurant again, thank you for your enthusiasm, but please don't get the wrong message from this week's changes. We especially need YOU to be on your best behavior. A great fear of loosening restrictions is that some people will get the wrong idea and stop being disciplined and we quickly lose everything we sacrificed for. If we want nice things, we must be willing to put in the work needed to keep them. Even as Santa Clara County is enjoying the fruits of our modest success in controlling infection rates, most of the rest of the country is slipping back into outbreak conditions again. We're also heading into the winter months and epidemiologists fear that there could be a strong seasonal component to Covid-19 much like the flu or common cold. We want these changes to last and that's going to require everyone to make smart decisions, be disciplined, and wear masks like their lives depended upon it. We've been given an opportunity. Enjoy. It. Responsibly. https://www.facebook.com/CampbellCalifornia/posts/3580957888630379

Has your household responded to the 2020 Census yet? No? Then DO IT NOW, like right now. Go to http://2020Census.gov or call 844-330-2020 by midnight to be counted. If you're not sure if you should respond to the census, here's a simple test. "Are you currently living in the United States?" ... If you answered "Yes" then you should respond to the census. The census is not a citizenship count. The census affects local budgeting decisions, resource allocation, and governance. It’s important that everyone is counted.

Did you know the Campbell Library is the location of one of Santa Clara County's ballot drop off boxes? You can use these drop off locations instead of the USPS when returning your vote by mail ballots. Additionally, if you want to track your ballot to ensure that it's being processed, you can register for updates on your ballot's status at WheresMyBallot.sos.ca.gov. The ballot drop off box at the Campbell Library is at the base of the main entrance ramp next to the library's parking lot.
