Historic Covina Bowl 15.11.2020

Update on Covina Bowl: The property has changed hands and the new ownership has secured the building, reactivated the fire sprinklers and hired a security patro...l. Preliminary plans are underway for a reuse for portions of the historic building that will preserve the neon sign, pyramid and main character-defining features. The Los Angeles Conservancy is working with the new owner to review plans and ensure the building maintains its eligibility as a historic resource. We'll post a more detailed update soon - stay tuned! See more

Tremendous thanks to producer Chris Bonomo for coming out to our event yesterday and putting together this delightful episode featured on his "Lost in Paradise"... YouTube series! "Today we joined in with the Friends of Covina Bowl to promote preservation of this iconic historical landmark. There are only a few mid century bowling alley's left in California and maybe, just maybe, we can save a couple of them. After all, look at this architecture! Amazing! Designed by Powers, Daly and Derosa who are the masterminds behind many mid century modern masterpieces. I speak with Adriene Biondo from the LA Conservancy, who leads the charge with the Friends of Covina to try and preserve as much of the Covina Bowl as possible! So please, email your support, your pictures, your stories, tell your friends, don your best bowling shirt, and lets set up those pins!!!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6pKaILWuHE

Help save a fabulous 50s landmark! The Friends of Covina Bowl invite you to join in support of preserving Covina Bowl, a Southern California landmark since 1956. Join us on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 10am outside of Covina Bowl at 1060 W. San Bernardino Rd. in Covina. Meet on the street in front of the bowling alley. Photographers will take a group photo of all of us holding a banner that lets everyone know this place is important! Everyone's welcome! Since the bowling alley ha...s closed, after the group photo we'll head over to Clearman's North Woods Inn Restaurant at 540 N. Azusa Ave. in Covina where folks can chat and buy lunch if they wish. (Clearman's is an amazing time capsule that doesn't disappoint--like stepping back to the Gold Rush Era!) https://www.yelp.com/biz/clearmans-north-woods-inn-covina *Cruise over in your classic car! *Everybody's welcome! Bring a friend! *Dress 50s, wear a bowling shirt! Event ends at 1pm at Clearman's North Woods Inn. ------->QUESTIONS? This rare, surviving example of a mid-century bowling alley was officially found eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places in September 2016. We believe that preservation and development can coexist, and we’ll continue to advocate for a win-win solution.
