Just a reminder to all of you who would like to attend our usual events, everything is currently on hold due to the pandemic. We will resume our activities when we believe it is safe for public gatherings. Stay tuned I will let you know.

Toward the end of twilight, binoculars will help show that Comet NEOWISE is close to the star-pair, Iota and Kappa Ursae Majoris. If you have a dark enough sky, the Milky Way now forms a magnificent arch high across the whole eastern sky after nightfall. https://buff.ly/2ZzNTQi

Two supernovae for amateur telescopes have recently erupted in the western evening sky, both 12th magnitude and both in the Virgo Galaxy Cluster: in M85 and NGC 4457. Saturday and Sunday mornings, Venus passes just 1 from Aldebaran. https://buff.ly/2ZSRx6I

These new Hubble images depict two nearby young planetary nebulae, NGC 6302, dubbed the Butterfly Nebula, and NGC 7027. Both are among the dustiest planetary ne...bulae known and both contain unusually large masses of gas, which made them an interesting pair for study in parallel by a team of researchers. https://www.spacetelescope.org/news/heic2011/ Image credit: NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, ESA - European Space Agency, and J. Explore this image from my latest close pass by Jupiter on April 10: the complex topography of the planet’s cloud tops. My JunoCam camera captured these elabora...te atmospheric jets in Jupiter's northern mid-latitude region. If you look closely, relatively small, bright, pop-up clouds which rise above the surrounding features stand out at the tops and edges of the swirling patterns, while the darker areas nearby reveal greater depth. The Pillars of Creation brought to life by @Timm1138 Stretching roughly 4 to 5 light-years, the Pillars of Creation are a fascinating but relatively small fea...ture of the entire Eagle Nebula, which spans 70 by 55 light-years. The nebula, discovered in 1745 by the Swiss astronomer Jean-Philippe Loys de Chéseaux, is located 7,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Serpens. With an apparent magnitude of 6, the Eagle Nebula can be spotted through a small telescope and is best viewed during July. A large telescope and optimal viewing conditions are necessary to resolve the Pillars of Creation. #universe_dope See more
