I want to thank all the different entities that made th...is possible: Laborers Union Local 652, Assemblymember Tom Daly's office, Lou Correa's Office, Santa Ana Police Officers Association, City of Santa Ana, The Roosters Foundation and Bracken's Kitchen. I also want to personally thank Norma Kurtz, from Tom Daly's office, and Janet Brown, from Lou Correa's office, for their effort and assistance to make this happen. I wanted to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all your generous donations. John was loved and will be missed by many. He battled a long time and so wanted to overcome this dreadful disease. I was by his side and supported him even to the end. I will miss him terribly and even though our story ended the way it did I wouldn't change a moment that this wonderful man was in my life. I now take comfort in the fact that he is my guardian angel. He will be watching over us all and I believe is truly humbled by the outpouring of love shown for him and to his family by the people he befriended, worked with, and called family. Again, thank you for me as well as his daughter. <3 <3 <3

Helping Hands Santa Ana wants to acknowledge the passing of our dear friend and former Executive Vice President Greg Galvan. Greg was a founding member of HHSA and was instrumental in the growth of our group in the early years. He was a key part of our start and he has been missed since his departure last year. Greg, may you rest in peace and we'll see you again on the other side. Condolences and prayers for his family.

Last week, I had the privilege to assist Santa Ana Police Athletic & Activity League (PAAL) students select their very own shoes for the upcoming school year. T...hrough HelpingHands, and the support of local sponsors, 200 students started the school year on the right foot this week! We would also like to thank a very important organization that gave a generous donation to Helping Hands Santa Ana towards our annual Back to School Project and other events we host. Make Sense Foundation and Vickie Beyer. Thank you for supporting our endeavors to help give back to the community and to make life a little easier for these families.... We appreciate it.

Every year, President John Mendez and Saddleback High School alumni who founded Helping Hands: Santa Ana volunteer at their annual shoe and backpack drive. Kids... who attended were referred by Santa Ana Police Department’s Police Athletic & Activity League program and were excited to receive new shoes and school supplies. I was proud to present a $500 donation to do my part. Thank you to all the incredible volunteers!

This event is always a very special one. Helping 200+ Santa Ana kids pick out some back-to-school kicks for FREE! Thank you Helping Hands: Santa Ana and John Me...ndez for organizing such an awesome event, five years in a row! And thank you for having me out there helping the kids. Growing up, something like this would’ve definitely lifted a heavy burden on my mom who was raising three boys on her own ... god bless you guys! This past Saturday, Helping Hands: Santa Ana provided students and their families of Santa Ana Police Athletic & Activity League (SAPAAL) with an Easter Egg hun...t, Easter baskets, and a scholarship for a former student. Alexis Rodriguez was admitted to Harvard University; Helping Hands: Santa Ana provided a generous donation. The Santa Ana PAAL is a community program that focuses on building a bond between kids and cops through education, fitness, and activities.
