Bad things will ALWAYS be bad things. There are somethings you have survived that made a mark. I'm not going to pretend to be Suzy Sunshine and minimize what you have walked through. How you respond to the hard things is what shapes you and the path you are on. Clients have shared with me the unimaginable and I have seen them heal in a way that brought beauty from ashes. Even if you are in the place of bitterness, it is not too late for you. Your story matters and life ...is not over. Do you ever look at your life and think, "Life is pretty good"? Yet, you find yourself bumping up against the same thing over and over again that is just like a kink in the chain? You may have learned to manage it but at the end of the day it's still a hiccup. Therapy provides a space that you can heal and learn to respond to it differently. Whether it's your first holiday without your loved one or the 15th, you are always painfully aware when there is someone that should be there, but isn't. Grief is strange. You can be happy and sad at the same time. Maybe joy even feels like it hits a ceiling and cannot go as far as it use to. We all have different experiences but one thing is certainly true: Your grief deserves a space of acknowledgement. There's no prize for ignoring it or getting through without a meltdown.... Take the time to create space for your pain and longing. By acknowledging your grief, you are not only honoring yourself but also the one you lost. What does this look like? 1. Stop pretending it's not there. 2. Allow physical and emotional space for you to feel the grief and put words to it with someone safe or even spoken to your missed loved one. 3. Incorporate traditions or something symbolic as a way of celebrating their life. 4. Share fun memories and stories that you treasure! 5. Get creative! There's no rules on what this has to look like. If you've found something that has been helpful for you to create space, I'd love for you to comment below! #mindfulness #healing #ptsd #mindset #itsokaytonotbeokay #mentalhealthwarrior #endthestigma #breakthesilence #yourstorymatters #mentalhealthrecovery #suicideprevention #mentalwellness #anxietysupport #yourworthit #mentalhealthtips #shiftyourmindset #soulpreneur #healingtogether #mentalhealthcheck #relationshiphelp #managingstress #depressionsupport #yourenotalone #selfhealing #selfcompassion #grief #griefjourney #griefsupport #griefandloss #griefrecovery See more

Do you ever feel like your brain is flooded? So many things, so many thoughts, so many issues that feel so big and so hard to tackle. They aren't going away so make yourself a priority and give yourself the space to work through them. Therapy isn't just venting to a friend, it is a space for change, healing, and growth. You are worth it. #selfcarematters #depression #mentalhealthmatters #wellness #motivation #covid #mindfulness #healing #ptsd #mindset #itsokaytonotbeokay #mentalhealthwarrior #endthestigma #breakthesilence #yourstorymatters #mentalhealthrecovery #suicideprevention #mentalwellness #anxietyawareness #yourworthit #mentalhealthtips #shiftyourmindset #mentalhealthcheck #relationshiphelp #managingstress #depressionsupport #highfunctioninganxiety #yourenotalone #selfhealing #selfcompassion

I lean towards goal setting versus New Year resolutions. Here are some key ways to achieve your goals for this year. 1. Write them down: This gives you mental clarity on what you are working towards and a base line for accountability. Make them reasonable, clear, measurable. 2. Make categories for your goals: When I goal set for the year, I vision cast for various aspects of my life. For me, this includes professional, spiritual, emotional, and family development. These ...do not always have to be traditional or even "sexy" like losing 20 lbs. This could be committing X amount of dollars to your retirement each month. One of my professional goals last year was to be trained in EMDR. This year one of mine is to become certified in EMDR. 3. Strategize: Identify the steps that need to happen in order to achieve your goal. For example, if you want to run a marathon this year and you don't even run - what steps do you need to take? You probably need to train for a 5k first! 4. Evaluate and Be Accountable: I am most successful when I have a friend or mentor stalk me about the things I'm working towards. It's mildly annoying but also pushes me to be better and grow. Identify a person you can commit to meet with that is going to ask you about your goals. No one comes to mind? Schedule in your calendar to evaluate your goals every 12 weeks. Make actionable steps you are going to take prior to that 12 week mark. Then you evaluate/adjust the steps that need to happen for the next 12 week check in. What has helped you achieve your goals? #mentalhealth #selfcarematters #depression #selflove #mentalhealthmatters #wellness #motivation #covid #mindfulness #therapy #healing #wellbeing #inspiration #meditation #happiness #positivevibes #mindset #mentalhealthwarrior #mentalhealthrecovery #suicideprevention #mentalwellness #yourworthit #mentalhealthtips #shiftyourmindset #soulpreneur #mentalhealthcheck #relationshiphelp #managingstress #selfhealing #selfcompassion

With my best Fiddler on the Roof voice, "Traditioooon. TRADITION!" Traditions can be so much fun and also can be a vital part of creating cohesion in a family. Our lives can be chaotic and unpredictable. Traditions provide something positive we can look forward to and count on. They also can be a part of our legacy that allow a sense of connection for years to come. We had several holiday traditions when I was growing up. Both of my parents have passed away and I cherish... those traditions even more now that they are gone. Every Christmas my mom made Cherry Cheesecake. It's not even real cheese cake, but it is delicious and we couldn't wait to eat it on Christmas day and for days to come. The longer it sits, the better it gets. Any holiday I've been away from my parents on Christmas I've made it. It allows me to feel connected to them. My daughter gets so excited to have it on Christmas and I love that it is becoming a part of her traditions too. Then we have our own traditions that we've started in my family today. Every year we make the best Christmas Sugar Cookies - my kitchen gets destroyed and memories are made. I want to hear about your Christmas traditions ! #christmas2020 #holidayplanning #christmasplanning #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #selfcarematters #selflove #mentalhealthmatters #wellness#mindfulness #healing #mindset #mentalwellness #yourworthit #mentalhealthtips #shiftyourmindset #healingtogether #mentalhealthcheck #selfhealing #selfcompassion #familytraditions #holidaytraditions #christmastraditions

When you are feeling anxious, sometimes it's the only thing you can feel or see. It suddenly becomes the lens you view yourself and the world around you. Anxiety has a tendency to take you out of the present and into a vicious cycle in your head. For the record, everyone experiences anxiety. It's the space it holds in one's life and mind that varies. Anxiety is manageable. If you can understand your triggers and needs you shift to a position that allows you to navigate ...through it versus being ruled by it. Take the time to get to know yourself and connect with a professional in your area that can help. You deserve to live life and not simply go through the motions. #mentalhealthawareness #anxiety #selfcarematters #mentalhealthmatters #wellness ##covid #mindfulness #mindset #itsokaytonotbeokay #mentalhealthwarrior #endthestigma #breakthesilence #yourstorymatters #mentalhealthrecovery #suicideprevention #mentalwellness #anxietyawareness #anxietysupport #yourworthit #mentalhealthtips #shiftyourmindset #soulpreneur #healingtogether #mentalhealthcheck #managingstress #depressionsupport #highfunctioninganxiety #yourenotalone #selfhealing #selfcompassion

Christmas is truly my favorite season. Give me all the Christmas music, over the top lights, holiday movies, all the delicious treats, obnoxious holiday wear, wrapping paper that matches my tree, and basically anything that you can define as EXTRA. I'm the self proclaimed Grand Marshall of Christmas in my house which also means, I arrange the teacher's gifts, coaches gifts, outreach donations, extended family presents, and so on. Can you relate? Listen, I'm not complaining... --I love it. However, the busyness that can come with this can also take you out of the present and highjack the moments that truly matter. Make sure you are making the deposits in yourself that are sustaining and that matter the most. Otherwise this season will just become a list of checked boxes with little satisfaction. What is one way you plan on being present this season? #christmas2020 #holidayplanning #christmasplanning #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #selfcarematters #selflove #mentalhealthmatters #wellness#mindfulness #healing #mindset #mentalwellness #yourworthit #mentalhealthtips #shiftyourmindset #healingtogether #mentalhealthcheck #selfhealing #selfcompassion #soulpreneur
