Andrew Crichton, a beloved father of 3 boys and husband to Shelly, had just retired from a memorable career with the Huntington Beach Fire Department in Decembe...r 2019. On October 29th, 2020 Andrew was T-boned at high speed in an intersection and thrown into a barrier in his favorite Jeep in Idaho. He sustained significant injuries including a broken neck, 4 broken ribs and a significant brain injury with a subdural bleed requiring extensive surgery. He is currently fighting for his life at Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Boise, Idaho. Andrew earned the Distinguished Maltese Cross in 1996 by diving down 12 feet to rescue a woman in a submerged vehicle. Upon retiring in 2019, he moved to Idaho with his family to live out his retirement closer to nature and his christian COMPASS congregation. Initially, with surgery and intensive medical care his condition was improving. However, Andrew is fighting now more then ever after developing pneumonia, decreasing O2 saturation, and declining responsiveness. Please consider donating to his family to help with medical expenses, food, and additional supportive needs. Please keep Andrew in your thoughts and prayers. #HuntingtonBeach #HBFD #HBFA https://www.gofundme.com/f/cpt-andrew-crichton-ret-accident

This morning, a customer was leaving the IHOP at Beach Blvd. and Constantine Dr. and saw smoke coming from the rooftop and went back in to alert employees. The first arriving Engine reported smoke and fire coming out of the rooftop and called for a working structure fire. Due to the location of the fire and attic features, it made it very difficult for Firefighters inside to reach the fire in the attic space. In a team effort, Truck crews from both Huntington Beach Fire De...partment and Fountain Valley Fire Department were on the roof, able to fight the fire from above, and ultimately extinguished it. The firefighters on the roof worked tirelessly by cutting into the roof, removing roof materials, and removing smoldering debris to access the difficult areas where the fire was located. We want to thank the customer who noticed something was not right and alerted employees. We commend the IHOP employees who safely got themselves and customers out of the structure with no injuries. We ask that our residents and business community make sure that they have a plan in place to get themselves and everyone out of a structure safely in the event of an emergency. If you haven’t had a chance to review your plan lately please take a moment to go over that with your family or with your employees. The cause of the fire at IHOP is unknown at this time and Fire Investigators are on scene conducting their investigation. #HuntingtonBeach #HBFD

Huntington Beach Firefighters responded to the Surf City Beach Cottages near Huntington Street and Atlanta Avenue this afternoon for a report of a structure fire. The first arriving crew reported smoke coming from the residence, active fire, and called for a working structure fire. Crews made an aggressive attack, were able to extinguish the fire, and stopped any extension to neighboring units. Crews continued to work on overhaul and salvage to protect the resident’s prope...rty. Unfortunately, one cat was a victim to the fire. The resident and another cat were able to get out safely. One of the challenges of mobile home fires is their close proximity to one another and the ability for fire to spread quickly to other units. Our firefighters were able to prevent that today. Today this resident was alerted by their smoke alarm and it saved their life. Please make sure to test your smoke alarms once a month and make sure that if you have battery powered smoke alarms, you changed them recently during the last time change. Thank you to the neighbors who were very supportive of the resident and to our firefighters. #HuntingtonBeach #HBFD See more

***UPDATED 11/02/20*** Today at approximately 12:48 P.M., the Huntington Beach Fire Department was notified of a boat fire near Peter’s Landing in Huntington Harbour. A total of six people were on the boat at the time. A Good Samaritan nearby got onto his dinghy was able to pull up near the bow of the boat and pull the victims onto the dinghy and to safety. The Good Samaritan then took the victims via the channel to a dock near Warner Fire Station. A Huntington Beach Fire ...Department Marine Safety Captain was on scene at the nearby dock to receiveand begin treating the patients. Fire Department Paramedics arrived and took over patient care. Of the six people on the boat, a total of four patients were taken to local hospitals for further treatment, one patient signed out against medical advice, and one patient refused any medical care. The Huntington Beach Fire Department wants to remind recreational boaters, that children under 13 years of age must wear a United States Coast Guard approved life jacket while on any moving recreational vessel and that recreational vessels must carry one wearable life jacket for each person on board. The boat was towed to nearby Sunset Aquatic Park by the Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol Boat where Fire Investigators will be performing an investigation. The cause is unknown at this time and is being investigated by both Huntington Beach Fire Department and Orange County Fire Authority Fire Investigators. #HuntingtonBeach #HBFD

The #SilveradoFire is creating a lot of smoke throughout the County and especially in Huntington Beach. Please make sure that you are taking the correct precautions to reduce the health effects of wildfire smoke: - Avoid any vigorous outdoor or indoor activity. - People with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly, and children should remain indoors .... - Keep the windows and doors in your home closed. - Use your air conditioner on the re-circulate mode, if available, to limit the intake of outdoor air and keep your home comfortable. - Keep your airways (nose and mouth) moist by drinking extra amounts of water. This helps your body filter out potentially harmful particles in the smoke. - Seek medical attention if you have symptoms such as chest pain, chest tightness, shortness of breath, or severe fatigue. #HuntingtonBeach #HBFD
