I’ve done the research, and I even have a 3-hour course on how screen time affects early childhood development. Yes, we want parents to read, sing, and talk to ...their children more. But, we need to be realistic...they can’t do those things ALL day EVERY day. So I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately about why screen time for very young children is on the rise and I’ve come to this conclusion: every parent needs 5 minutes. Do you know what I mean by that? Sometimes we just need 5 minutes to ourselves. 5 minutes to have an uninterrupted cup of coffee. 5 minutes to make a phone call. 5 minutes to sit in peace and quiet to gather our thoughts. 5 minutes to pee...alone. 5 minutes to not be asked 50 questions or be climbed on like a jungle gym. We all need 5 minutes...or maybe 20. So screen time is an easy and obvious solution. If we truly want to reduce passive screen time experiences for young children, we need to provide parents with an alternative solution. And here it is...we need to increase independent play skills in young children. Young children need to learn how to entertain themselves...without becoming dependent on a screen. As an early intervention provider, it seems that writing goals and outcomes for INDEPENDENT PLAY SKILLS is usually something the team doesn’t think of. We need to stop parent shaming and blaming for excessive screen time and start offering another solution. True play is disappearing in our media manic world. We need to start focusing directly on teaching independent play skills for the sake of children’s development and their parents’ mental health! Young children should not need to be entertained or instructed every waking second of the day. They need to learn how to entertain themselves, how to play with their toys, how to look at books alone, how to create, wonder, imagine, pretend, explore, discover. Increasing independent play skills: Is this a viable alternative? Can we help young children learn how to entertain themselves without reliance on a screen? I’d love to know your thoughts. . . . #cariebertseminars #slpsofinstagram #instaslp #speechtherapy #slpeeps #earlyintervention #screenfreeplay #speechies #ashaigers

NEW IDEA! Especially nowadays that our children ALL AROUND THE WORLD are left behind, and parents are busy and worried about the Armenian cause, I came up w...ith this idea. I would like to offer short educational recordings to the Armenian children all around the world, starting from the shelters in Artsakh ending to every corner of the diaspora. Children are exposed to every kind of videos on you tube, and parents, especially now with the Covid and the war in Artsakh and Armenia are not following to the quality of what children are watching. Please take a moment, and introduce my recording and the following ones to your children. I hope they will like it and will be in safe hands from now on. I will try to be as interactive as possible and will be using both dialects mixed during the same recording to attract their attention. Please feel free to comment and give your feedbacks. I am open to make any changes in the future. Also please subscribe to Harmony Speech Therapy and Diagnostics youtube channel. That way you will be notified every time we download new recordings. Thank you in advance. See more

Go ahead, read Duck On A Tractor for the fourth time, it's actually a good thing! A study found that children who heard the same book multiple times, actually ...had better retention of a new words compared to kids who were read different books containing the same word. - I’ve always felt people jump to new books too fast. With my literacy-based sessions, we use the same book for 4-5 sessions. - I did a post about how to set up literacy-based therapy sessions. So if you are not sure where to start, just pop over to the blog - https://www.thespeechbubbleslp.com//how-to-plan-a-literacy - Horst, J. S., Parsons, K. L., & Bryan, N. M. (2011). Get the story straight: contextual repetition promotes word learning from storybooks.
