Our client came to the US on a spousal visa, but his marriage fell apart due to his US citizen wife's drug abuse and destructive behavior (yes, men are victims of abuse too). It was a long and stressful road for him, but now he has a chance for rebuilding his life free from immigration issues. Our client from Afghanistan came to the US as a child and had a final order of removal entered against her when her father's asylum case was denied. Time for an all-night brief writing marathon. Reminds me of law school, except the stakes are much higher now. The government attorney is relentlessly fighting us in an asylum case for a client with terrible physical injuries from his trauma, not to mention the psychological injuries. Two full days of hearings, testimony from multiple experts witnesses, and extensive written arguments have already been submitted. Now working on our reply to the government attorney's 30 pag...e closing argument. This is our last shot before the judge makes a decision on this young man's life. In tonight's debate, President Trump said "only" the immigrants with "the lowest IQ" return for their court cases. That is simply false. 99% of those immigrants who were released from custody in 2019 returned for their court hearings. Feeling good about successfully navigating a family through the citizenship process of their children (ages 1, 4, and 7). They derived their US citizenship from their grandmother, a complicated process involving guiding them through several agencies (USCIS, DoS, CBP).
