Accepting our children’s ‘uncomfortable’ feelings and helping them learn to sit with and process those feelings is a powerful parenting skill we can learn from accepting and processing our own. Dr. Sará King has an idea she wants you to hear: wellbeing and social justice are the same thing. King is a neuroscientist, medical anthropologist, and meditation teacher. "One approach that serves us well in this context is the SoBe Mindful method. It makes mindfulness highly accessible by drawing upon familiar aspects of the natural world around us. Just as this method lets us ground ourselves by connecting with natureespecially amid a pandemic, when so many of us have been staying indoorsit opens a doorway to practicing with loved ones and is adaptable for all ages and needs." Perhaps if tearful little boys were comforted instead of shamed, there wouldn’t be so many angry men struggling to express and empathize with emotion.... Perhaps if angry little girls were heard instead of silenced, there wouldn’t be so many hurting women struggling to understand and love themselves. And vice versa. Perhaps if children's emotions were understood instead of punished, there wouldn’t be so many armored people struggling to be connected and authentic. Certainly, children need to feel all their emotions, without fear of rejection to mature into their healthiest true selves. Being hard on children does not make them stronger. People are strengthened through compassion and understanding, regardless of gender or age. Lelia Lelia Schott [peaceful parent pedagogy and practices through one on one coaching] www.LeliaSchott.com
