This patient came to us with severe knee pain and very poor range of motion after having undergone a total knee replacement somewhere else 2 years ago. Dr. Han performed a revision knee replacement that improved motion and pain.

Cathy recently underwent successful removal of hardware for previous fracture fixation from another institution and conversion to total knee replacement for severe knee arthritis at Han Orthopaedics. Initially seen a year ago, she was managed with injections, physical therapy, activity modification, and weight loss. She initially weighed 409 lbs and now weighs 313 lbs after bariatric surgery. Dr. Han is one of the first surgeons to use BioWick designed to enhance biology to promote healing in rotator cuff repairs. BioWick is a bioresorbable scaffold wick composed of polylactide-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) placed between rotator cuff tendon and its attachment to bone. It is designed to mimic fiber alignment of collagen in the rotator cuff tendon. In animal studies, this has improved healing parameters with: - higher percentage of perpendicular fibers at the tendon-bon...e interface - greater new bone formation at the tendon-bone interface - higher percentage of tendon-bone integration with tissue - higher levels of collagen III This is all done arthroscopically while still utilizing Dr. Han’s advanced rotator cuff repair techniques. Factors for successful healing after rotator cuff repair are 1) surgical technique, 2) implants, and 3) biology.
