High Sierra Quilters 17.11.2020

A message from Debbie: I hope this finds everyone healthy and safe. I first want to say a big THANK YOU to all those of you who jumped on board to sew protective masks for Marshall Hospital and other groups in Eldorado County and beyond. To date, we’ve handed out kits to make over 5300 masks and have distributed over 1800 finished masks to the Marshall Foundation for use by Marshall Hospital. We have also have given out over 2300 masks to other entities such as eating est...ablishments, nursing homes, other medical facilities, etc. and the general public. I would like to recognize Shari Pace, Laura Smith and Emily Quayle from High Sierra Quilters and Jane Poland as they volunteered their time and efforts to make the mask program here at the store so successful. I really appreciate their dedication and support to both High Sierra Quilters and to the local community. As you all know, Eldorado County has been given permission to move forward in Stage 2 of the State Public Health Stay-at-Home order to disrupt the spread of COVID-19. With that comes a responsibility for business owners to follow State mandated guidelines to protect both customers as well as employees. Here are the High Sierra Quilters prevention practices that we will continue to follow: All customers entering the store will be required to wear a protective face covering. If you don’t have one, we will provide. This will also include sanitizing hands or wearing gloves prior to entering the store. All our employees will also be wearing masks when customers are in the store. We will limiting the number of customers in the store at one time to 3 with a 20 minute time limit if possible. As the word gets out, please bring your patience and be prepared to wait outside if there are already 3 customers in the store. While in the store, please maintain physical distancing with other customers and our employees to the maximum extent possible. We will be wiping down surfaces and cutting tools, etc. several times each day. I have scheduled professional cleaners to continue cleaning bathrooms, floors, etc. monthly or as needed. Please remain home if you are or have been sick to protect both yourself and others. We have decided to move slowly in scheduling classes again. For those who signed up and paid for postponed classes in March, April & May, please be patient as we will probably try to hold the same classes in the future. Or we will give you a refund. Even though we now have a bigger classroom area, we will be limiting the size of classes to 4 students to ensure social distancing. At this time, masks will also be required to be worn during the class. We will continue to be open Monday Saturday from 10:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. Notice we will be open on Wednesday but not Sunday. We will re-evaluate being open on Sunday at a later date. I anticipate going back to the regular time schedule of 9:30 - 5:00 starting in June. Stay safe, everyone, and keep quilting!!

A message from Deb: Hi! We’ve had a great response to the request to sew masks for Marshall Hospital and other places needing protection from this awful virus! We really appreciate everyone coming to pick up kits and are looking forward to receiving them back to distribute. We were able to give out kits to make 484 masks since Friday morning. Great job everyone! I also really appreciate everyone who has donated elastic, fabric & $$ to help with this effort. Unfortuna...tely, we are waiting on a shipment of elastic and pipe cleaners and they are not expected to arrive until sometime on Monday, March 30. We will then start having kits & patterns available again Tuesday morning (March 31) @ 10:00 as well as packets of just the elastic and pipe cleaners if you want to use your own fabric. Remember that you can drop off competed masks here at High Sierra Quilters, 1263 Broadway between 10:00 - 3:00 any day of the week or Monday Friday at Mattywags at 376 Main Street in Placerville and we will coordinate distribution to Marshall Hospital and other locations. I have also made some changes to the instructions for the mask we are making. One of the changes is that for masks for men, we’ve been asked to make the elastic 8 long. Also, am asking everyone to back tack across the elastic to ensure it doesn’t pull out. So there will be new kits and updated patterns early rhis coming week. Great job, everyone! #eldoradocountystrong

Friends- we as Californians are now being asked to take extra steps, to help ensure that we all stay as healthy as possible. The shop will close for as long as we are under this new directive, and then open to help you replenish your stash! Stay safe, quilt lots, and we’ll see you soon!

A message from Debbie: I have chosen to remain open, but with some changes. Based on what I know today, beginning Thursday 3/19/20, the store will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and closed on Wednesdays (subject to change). All classes currently scheduled (including Open Sewing) are postponed until further notice. We will be operating with a limited staff which will change daily. We will continue to monitor the situation both locally and statewide to determine an...d evaluate any new updates and will let you know of any future changes Of course there is plenty of hand sanitizer, all around the store, and space to maintain 6 feet between people. If you get an opportunity, drop a picture here to show us what you’re working on!
