In this photo, GDB client AJ and his K9 Buddy, black Lab Feather smile into the camera. AJ is wearing a blue shirt that reads "Dog Dad."

Meet our Leadership: Marcia Wick, Chair of the Alumni Association Board Marcia is enjoying retirement, exploring new routes and traveling with Viviane, her first guide dog. She advocates for accessible public transit and volunteers with VIBeS (the Visually Impaired and Blind Skiers of Colorado Springs), in addition to serving on the GDB Alumni Association Board. Marcia and her husband enjoy skiing, swimming, tandem biking, hiking, and traveling. Marcia holds a B.A. in journal...ism from the University of Northern Colorado. She enjoyed a long career in news reporting, corporate communications, public relations, and advertising; experiencing contrasting cultures from the mountains of Colorado to rural upstate New York and urban northern California. She also owned and operated a desktop publishing business serving clients in California and Colorado. Most recently, Marcia worked as an administrative assistant to the principals of a large public high school in Colorado Springs. Getting back to her writing roots in retirement, she is now launching a freelance writing career in partnership with her sister as The Write Sisters. Marcia has two grown daughters and two grandchildren. After an awesome day of work, the dogs get well-deserved play and relaxation at the end of their day! Black Lab runs in a slow motion video carrying a blue toy in their mouth.
Extra time for first bootie introductions before dinnertime! These girls get to run and play and do anything that makes them think those funny things on their feet aren’t so bad after all! Video Description: Yellow Lab plays and runs while practicing wearing booties.
The GDB campuses are beautiful and nothing shows off the beauty of the Oregon one like the campus trail. It's known by staff and volunteers as the Oregon Trail. If you checked out CWTT Kadi’s Instagram takeover in November, you’ve already seen her walk GDB dogs for exercise and enrichment on this trail. Clients enjoy it as an optional route during class to unwind in evenings or on the weekend. Enjoy my guide dog in training doing some guide work on his gorgeous trail wearing all 4 booties while I carry a backpack. Video Description: Jamie walks down the Oregon Trail path a black Lab guide dog.
Brenna’s dogs at their route destinations today: a bakery and a sushi takeout window. Guide dogs are motivated to work by many things including kibble, praise and petting. They can also be very motivated by taking their handler somewhere such as a coffee shop, their workplace, or even a bench. In fact, in order to qualify for a guide dog, an applicant must have 1-2 regular routes that include a destination for their future guide. A sushi takeout window also happens to be a gr...eat place to practice positioning that keeps the dog’s limbs and tail safely tucked away from foot traffic (third slide). Photo descriptions: Photo 1 - A yellow Lab female in harness sits on a wooden floor in front of a bakery display case with cupcakes. Photo 2 A black Lab female in harness sits in front of the green tile of a sushi takeout window. Photo 3 Brenna stands at the sushi takeout window with her black Lab in training positioned between her body and the half wall as Brenna waits for her order.
