Due to unfavorable changes in Tuolumne County's Covid status and following the recommendation of the County Health Department, the Museum has been forced to close to the public, effective Friday, November 13, 2020. We are sorry to make this decision, and we look forward to re-opening safely as soon as possible.
More history to enjoy at the Museum! Thanks to the generosity of the Carlo M. De Ferrari Archive in Sonora (and its Records Manager Andy Mattos), STHCS has just received an exciting new addition to its local history collection: a granite road marker commemorating the completion of the "New Priest Grade" Road over 100 years ago. Reflecting gradual name changes over the years since construction, the marker refers to the "Priests Hill Highway Completed in 1914." After its time o...n the roadside, the marker was later kept at a variety of locations in the County before returning to its intended home "south of the river" in mid-October. With Andy's help, STCHS Board members Dave Roberts, Harriet Codeglia, and Scott Belser retrieved the 200 pound granite sign from the Archive and installed it in a temporary viewing spot in the Museum. The Museum is now closed due to Covid concerns, but be sure to come visit the marker and all our exhibits when it reopens. Hopefully sooner rather than later! See more

History outdoors at the Museum. Over Labor Day weekend STCHS volunteers installed educational signs on two exhibits of historical mining equipment on display outside the Museum: a Truax ore car and a Pelton waterwheel. Come by and visit, Bring the family to learn local history while enjoying the Museum grounds.
