Amidst the smoky skies, we are beginning to recalibrate from what’s been a quite terrifying last couple weeks here on the property, as the Walbridge Fire reached within six miles north of us. The beginning of the lightning storms also sparked a small spot fire in the forest across the road, which was put out swiftly thanks to the hard work of our neighbors. After that, it was all hands on deck here to do any last minute fire safety protocol with the little time we had. Propan...e tanks were detached and placed in a location away from our homes, water buckets were left out for wildlife, heaps of dry brush & foliage were removed, walkie talkies were tested, and our community had last min tutorials on fire extinguisher and fire hose use. . We have been doing fire safety preparations for months now in anticipation of fire season that we would love to share with anyone interested, as this is only the beginning. . Praying that everyone out there is staying safe, restoring their nervous systems and loading up on lung supportive herbs like mullein, elecampane, rosemary, thyme, and marshmallow root. . We are also sitting with heaviness and grief for our friends and family who lost their homes, farms, and businesses during this time. . And we are humbled by the lessons of impermanence and uncertainly that fire season brings, which has resulted in an even deeper gratitude for this land we have the privilege of tending in this moment, and for our resilient community around us. . -Kim See more

Looking at homes with some sort of farmable land in CA to rent or purchase is heartbreakingly expensive. So, Washington, Georgia, and Illinois are topping the list. .
