We need these labeled bins everywhere. At home, at work, at school, at the parks, on the sidewalks..... Separating our waste is imperative to tackling our pollution problems on Planet Earth. Organic waste (fruits/veggies,eggs, coffee, yard/garden trimmings) must be separated from the inorganic because when organic waste breaks down with other materials it creates methane gas (a dangerous green house gas that contributes to climate change) FUN FACT :we can even add hair a...nd dryer lint to the compost pile. Plus it makes a lovely soil for our gardens at the end of the process! The goal is to keep as much as possible out of the inorganic bin. That all goes into a landfill, body of fresh water or dropped in a remote area of a jungle/forest. These materials accumulate year after year and will be on this planet for 100s and 1000s of years. Until we are literally swimming in waste. When we separate our waste like this it helps us to see what we are buying. It will help us to choose our products based on the packaging. Which will force companies to use better or zero packaging if they want our business. I am always suspicious of large corporations whose business models are based on the bottom line only (profit) and now all of a sudden due to public demand they add a product that seems to care about the people and/or the planet. Here is an example @dominosugar is company owned by American Sugar Refining Inc. Notice the word refining - to refine something is to remove unwanted elements in part of a manufacturing process. I don’t want my food to be refined or manufactured.... I want healthy, non-processed, whole foods for my body that have a low environmental footprint . Domino has been around for 100+ years selling refined, processed and bleached sugars. Now all of a sudden they are selling mascabado raw sugar cane.
