Is candy BAD and you should NEVER have any? There is a lot of misinformation about these"unhealthy foods". Everything in moderation they say. Sugar is bad they say. Kids eat candy all the time and they seem fine! Well... Candy is not bad! Under the right conditions... Fruit is better, but why!?... Well... It really has to come down to micronutrients and calories. So micronutrients is just a word to represent all the nutrients our bodies use, but not as an energy source. Calories are macronutrients that our bodies use for energy. The problem with candy is that it's hyper palatable. It isn't just candy either it's most foods to be honest lol. Most, let's call them, non-healthy foods, are calorically dense but lack the micronutrients and fiber that fresh whole foods have. The main issue is how easy it is to have 200, 300 or 500 calories in one handful without any changes in hunger. A banana has sugar, but it also has fiber and lots of micronutrients so when you eat a banana you actually feel satisfied and held over. Plus a banana is only about a hundred calories! That bag of sour patch kids is over a thousand calories!! I've never heard of someone eating 10 bananas in one sitting but a child can finish off any one of those bag of candies. This is why eating healthy is so important because Your body is getting all of the nutrients and calories it needs to function and maintain a healthy weight. The processing of foods categorically removes nutrients and replaces with empty calories that leave you wanting to eat more and more till satisfaction... Which sometimes never comes.

Hello! I wanted to write a quick post about how to eat a balanced day's worth of food. Our bodies keep an accurate journal so it's not thinking about our diets as one meal then another meal, but the total intake of nutrients in a day in a week in a month. There are three macronutrients - proteins fats and carbs - and many nutrients are more demonized than others. By far the most important one is protein as proteins are the building blocks of life and nearly every whole food... contains some amount of proteins. It's proteins that build muscle fight infections and compose every cell in our body. A Good target amount of protein is about 0.6 * total body weight = # of grams protein per day. 100g per day is plenty for almost any woman and 140g+ is plenty for most men. We get to the 160-200 for people 6' or taller. Fats & carbs are essentially interchangeable, but carbs are all too easy to have too much. Carbs are demonized the most with the S word (sugar) but We do not have to obsessively fear or avoid carbs AS LONG AS We are maintaining a healthy weight. It's when we go into consuming more calories than our metabolism burns where we start having issues. This is why eating healthfully is so important because fruits & veggies have tons of nutrients, but are not so calorically dense. They contain fiber which contributes to a healthy microbiome which in turn contributes to a healthy body and mind. Fiber is satiating. Protein is satiating. It's hard to overeat when you are satisfied. Most snack foods or unhealthy foods overall are simply calorically dense but lack protein and fiber So we keep eating these foods because we are not satisfied - which in turn leads to weight gain and the increased risk of undesirable health outcomes in the long run... Stronger together . Michelle and I have not worked in the same store since February! It's been a rough year, very challenging... More than 'very' to be honest, but our spirits are strong because we have each other to lean on. We've both been working double time at either location, respectively. We are grateful we never closed and probably will not have to next year - despite the easy 'out' of the great challenges that will be looming over the business for the next year.... . We are aware it's been challenging for most people and that's why I think it's so important for us to do the best we can possibly do each and every day. We must take care of our bodies and minds more than ever because 'good' days don't just happen serendipitously anymore.
