Gordon Prill, Inc. was proud to be a sponsor of the 56th annual Association Facility Professionals #AFE39 Day with a Facility Professional (DWFP) held at Juniper Networks’ Aspiration Dome. This signature event matched Silicon Valley host companies with college students for a day of job shadowing. Students got a chance to tour their host’s workplace, understand the challenges of facilities engineering, from building operations to managing a construction project. The size of the event has grown significantly from previous years to include engineering students from Cal Maritime, Cal Poly, San Jose State University and Santa Clara University. AFE39 and Gordon Prill are eager to help the next generation transition smoothly into the facilities industry. What a success!

Move-in Begins at the LCLS-II Cryogenic Plant The Cryogenic Plant responsible for keeping LCLS-II’s superconducting linear accelerator at just a few degrees above absolute zero recently received its first warm helium compressors. Gordon Prill staff had a blast at yesterday's golf festivities at the Association of Facilities Engineers - AFE39 Chapter’s annual Golf Tournament. This marked the third consecutive year we were a Beverage Cart Sponsor for this phenomenal event at the San Jose Country Club. Our Pink Lady Flamingo themed cart was a huge hit among golfers as was our raffle prize of emoji golf balls!

Take a look at our newly completed project, The Brown Institute! The Brown Institute’s official name is The David and Helen Gurley Brown Institute for Media Innovation. Helen Gurley Brown, author, publisher, businesswoman and longtime Cosmopolitan editor, gave a $30 million gift in remembrance of her husband David Brown, a movie producer and author/publisher, to establish the Institute in collaboration with Stanford University’s School of Engineering and Columbia University’s... Graduate School of Journalism. $12 million was awarded to endow a professorship each at Stanford and Columbia from where Brown graduated. Part of the gift went toward the construction of a highly visible signature space for students and the rest is funding research through awarding annual Magic Grants to Brown fellows to foster innovation in journalism and technology. Gordon Prill was commissioned to provide several pre-construction architectural design concepts and renderings for a flexible use student space that included a Central Lounge, Conference Room, Group Work Space, and a Rapid Prototyping Lab. Gordon Prill Design and Construction team worked hand-in-hand to develop a final plan to deliver a fully digital contemporary smart classroom.

The Appel-Dionne Lab at Stanford University is designed for research on a new generation of hydrogels based on abundant natural materials such as cellulose and colloidal silica. Hydrogels are versatile because their ingredients can be formulated to provide varying degrees of stiffness and porosity, making them ideal for many applications from advanced healthcare solutions to manufacturing. Gordon Prill worked with the Department of Engineering to design and build-out this new 2500 sq. ft. wet and dry materials lab.

GP employee families and friends enjoyed a recent fun-filled afternoon at Campo Di Bocce of Fremont enjoying great food and games. We got bocce ball lessons and honed our skills. When the temperature outside started heating up, we took up rock climbing inside!! The Peak of Fremont is located on-site with 50 ft. high walls and 16,000 sq. ft. of climbable terrain. All that climbing to get to the top and ring the bell made for a superb heart healthy full body exercise experience for the kids and many fearless employees.

Our construction team is hard at work at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, Menlo Park, on the B950 Utility Relocation project. The scope includes relocating existing HVAC and electrical utilities to new 3,600 sq. ft. mechanical penthouse. The relocated utilities will power laboratories in adjacent buildings. Thick foam mats were placed below the cement flooring to prevent water from entering the lower tunnel housing SLAC’s renowned linear accelerator during the rainy season.

Take a peek at the transformation made by Gordon Prill and our subcontractors on the Texas Instruments, Santa Clara, Level 1 Tenant Improvement project. This 33,413 sq. ft. project involves renovation of the first floor of Building E to accommodate new offices. Our team gutted the space and constructed a new ceiling with enhanced lighting, new walls and carpet, assembled cubicles and furniture and upgraded restrooms with Title 24 and Cal Green optimization with water conservation, enhanced energy savings through lighting and better air quality and to also meet ADA code compliance.
