October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Knowing and understanding the implications of your family history of cancer is an important aspect of breast cancer prevention and treatment. If you have immediate family members who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, you are at a higher risk for diagnosis and may consider familial mutation for certain genes that are linked to causing breast cancer (like BRCA1 and BRCA2). We have just released our new Autism/Cognitive Impairment Mutigene Panel to evaluate 46 essential genes known to be associated with a predisposition towards autism spectrum disorder or cognitive impairment/developmental delay/disability. August is Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) awareness month. Genetics Center offers both carrier and diagnostic testing for SMA. While there is no cure, recent medical advances have provided a treatment for this condition which is very promising.

Genetics Center has reached another milestone. July, 16th was our 34th anniversary of serving the genetics needs of the local community and beyond. We are grateful for everyone's support over the years.

Genetics Center is open and here to serve your clinical and laboratory needs during this unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. Our in-house laboratory remains in full operation 7 days a week. Our patients and clients remain our top priority, and we are taking additional steps to ensure continuity of our services and everyone's safety, including the availability of telecounseling and videocounseling to our patients.

Walk for Victory. Genetics Center was a sponsor of The Marfan Foundation's 2020 Southern California Walk For Victory, held February 29, 2020 in Costa Mesa, CA, and some of our staff participated in the event.

November 14th is Genetic Counselor Awareness Day. Genetics Center’s licensed and board certified genetic counselors provide valuable information regarding genetic risks and genetic diseases. They become familiar with an individual’s personal and family history to determine whether genetic testing may be appropriate. They also ensure people understand their genetic testing results as well as the implications for their health. Our counselors can provide helpful information, guidance, and very often peace of mind. We celebrate our team of genetic counselors who strive to meet patient needs and work hard to maintain patient satisfaction.

This week Genetics Center is also celebrating National Administrative Professionals Week, in recognition of the hard work of office coordinators, administrative assistants, receptionists, genetic counselors, and other administrative support professionals. These professionals have a crucial role in the everyday operations of Genetics Center. Genetics Center extends our thanks and appreciation for the hard work these professionals do every day.

This week Genetics Center is celebrating Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, an annual celebration of medical laboratory professionals and pathologists who make an invaluable contribution to a critical component of one of this nation's largest and most important industry and save countless lives each day by providing reliable laboratory test results required for prevention, detection, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. Genetics Center extends our thanks and appreciation for the hard work these professionals do every day.

Genetics Center is Celebrating Medical Genetics Awareness Week (April 2 thru 6, 2019) The goal of Medical Genetics Awareness Week, which will coincide annually with the ACMG Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting, is to promote awareness of the "invaluable contributions that medical genetics healthcare professionals make in the diagnosis, management, and prevention of genetic diseases, and the difference these professionals make in the lives of patients and families." During this ...new annual event, ACMG will honor the skills and commitment of all those on the healthcare team who translate genetic and genomic discoveries into better patient care, including medical geneticists, laboratory geneticists, genetic counselors, and nurses. The goal of GENETICS CENTER is to be "Experts in Genetics . . . Specialists in Caring." We have a team of medical genetics healthcare professionals including two medical geneticists and a large team of skilled genetic counselors and laboratory genetic scientists. We have two comprehensive molecular genetics and cytogenetics laboratories in house. Our office staff is organized into the distinct departments of cancer genetics, pediatric and adult medical genetics, prenatal genetics, and administration. Our education programs include two State-accredited clinical laboratory genetic scientist training programs, monthly continuing education meetings, and genetic counseling and resident physician genetics rotations.

Doctors Day Celebration! At Genetics Center, we like to acknowledge the hard work done by our staff, and their unwavering commitment to patient care and excellence in laboratory testing. With National Doctors’s Day falling on a Saturday this year, Genetics Center staff decided to celebrate early by holding a special pot-luck style luncheon during the week to recognize our medical geneticists, Dr. Touran Zadeh and Dr. Neda Zadeh. Each day they exemplify the core values of Genetics Center by providing superb service and the highest levels of patient care through hard work, and open and honest communication. They accomplish this, while also being enthusiastic and open minded, and exuding a positive team and family spirit. We thank our doctors for their commitment to excellence and continued contributions to our community!
