Don’t make your resume another plain ol’ job description hiring managers are after your achievements! Make sure to include data and action verbs that show what you brought to the role.
My path to General Assembly was a bit different. I was working as a telecom engineer during the pandemic when my company went through lay offs. I thankfully kept my job, but the experience made me completely rethink what I wanted to do in my career. I wasn’t happy or satisfied with my position, and I wanted my work to inspire me so I started my coding journey. Soon after, I took the leap and left my job. This led me to a program that partnered with General Assembly, and I... enrolled in their Data Science Immersive. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I was challenged and pushed to do far more than I thought I could. I learned so much and I met amazing people along the way. I think that if you desire change in your career, you should make that investment in yourself. Expand your network and lean on those around you for support. The journey is worth it if you put in effort. Yetunde Obasade, Data Science Immersive Grad

Losing my job as an event producer due to the impact of COVID-19 on the event industry was a hidden opportunity to discover tech. Coding is a natural fit for me, and it quickly became clear that my project management skills would transfer easily into software engineering. This led to my enrolling in GA's Software Engineering Immersive bootcamp, which was the catalyst towards my new career. A month after finishing the course, I was offered my first role as a junior software e...ngineer a dream come true! If you are on a similar journey, know that you CAN do it, and it’s okay to feel a bit lost at times. Just keep going, and don't be afraid to ask for help. It will be worth it in the end! Your career coach will be your accountability partner, helping you set goals, make plans for success, and stay on track with job searches. Build confidence with resume workshops, mock interviews, and real-world training. Anna, my career coach, is awesome. She's so enthusiastic and empathetic to all of the different needs of each person in our cohort. It isn't just people from New York or Austin or wherever she's looking out for all of us everywhere. She has a keen eye for ...detail, and she's started pointing me in a direction to leverage the soft skills I had from before I started SEI, to combine them with what I've learned at GA and find work in the type of role that I'd excel in. I feel like I'm becoming more prepared for job interviews, and I'm looking and thinking more critically and tactically about my next position. Honestly I'd be a fish climbing a tree if it weren't for the career coaching I've been getting. Don’t just take Cory’s word for it see for yourself!
