It's time for #GeekwiseStudentSpotlight! Today we're featuring Jenn Guerra! Hometown: Kingsburg, CA Courses taken: Websites for Beginners and Mobile Friendly Websites... What have you learned at Geekwise? "I have learned so much! Html, CSS, how to use Visual Studio, how to use my terminal, Github, how to keep my code neat and organized, and how to put it all together to create a website! I also learned that it's ok to ask lots of questions, to ask for help, and to network with other students and utilize the study groups. I learned that sharing ideas and co-creating is super fun and I am enjoying learning code and looking forward to more classes!" What advice do you have for people who don't feel like a coding course is for them? "Try it! I was a bit intimated as I have not done any programming since I was in high school and I come from a wellness background. However, the more I practiced and asked questions, went to study group, the more I was able to understand it little by little. Give yourself a chance to try something new! You just might enjoy it!" What has surprised you the most about virtual courses? "I really enjoyed the virtual course! This was my first one and I really enjoyed connecting with everyone, learning together and sharing ideas. It really surprised me how much I learned each day in the classes!"

Nontraditional founders in nontraditional places are capable of CRUSHING IT! At the beginning of 2020, 10 budding entrepreneurs joined Geekwise Academy's Founders Cohort. The first of its kind, the goal of the Cohort was to empower these 10 with more equity, business knowledge, and unyielding encouragement. Surrounded by support and coaching from people that looked like them, they experienced a crash-course in entrepreneurship with workshops and pitch sessions from Google f...or Startups. Have you ever wanted to learn how to code? Sign up for our virtual course, Websites For Beginners, where no coding experience is required! Learn how to build websites in HTML5, CSS3, industry tools, page construction, and industry-specific terminology. No matter your age, background, education or job history, our (virtual) doors are open after completing a coding course! For students ready for entry level employment, we assist in connecting them to job opportunities. Students may also be invited to a Geekwise Academy cohort. A cohort is a group of 8-10 students paired with a senior-level person who will coach them through the development of client projects to gain experience and skills to ready themselves for employment. Wh...ether students have landed a job or join a cohort, they are encouraged to continue enrolling in Geekwise courses to keep their skills fresh!
