Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was our champion. She fought for LGBTQ rights, the rights of women, and the rights of all those who needed her ferocious, unwavering, and brilliant legal mind to make our country a more just place to live. She made our lives better and losing her is a loss we can hardly calculate. Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles has sung in times of joy and sorrow over the past 41 years and, as we cannot be with you in person today, we offer you a musical tribute t...o the life of the Notorious RBG. GMCLA with the incredible LeAnn Rimes singing THE ROSE -- one the most beloved guest artists and GMCLA performances of all time -- captured in video from our own James Roman. As we honor Justice Ginsburg’s life we also honor the legacy she has left us. A legacy we know is very fragile. GMCLA will continue to do what we have done for these past four decades and raise our voices in song for our community in joy and sorrow, and for social justice for all. Filmed at the Saban Theatre, Beverly Hills, CA. December 19, 2010. #rgb #notoriousrbg #supremecourt #ruthbaderginsburg

Meet Peter Johnson! He joined the chorus in 1987 and works as the Archives Manager at the Skirball Cultural Center! He grew up in Montgomery, Alabama. When he was a child his father used to bring him to the drinking fountains marked "colored" to show him the water was exactly the same. Peter's favorite memory with GMCLA is performing in St. Petersburg, Russia to an audience that didn't know they were gay until they told them! When Peter's not singing you can find him reading and gardening. #MeetTheChorus #GMCLA #LGBT

Today GMCLA remembers legendary AIDS activist and playwright Larry Kramer. His activism, art, and outspoken voice changed America and brought LGBT issues to light. As Elton John said this morning - "We have lost a giant of a man who stood up for gay rights like a warrior. His anger was needed at a time when gay men’s deaths to AIDS were being ignored by the American government: a tragedy that made the Gay Men’s Health Crisis and ACT UP movements so vital. He never stopped shouting about the injustices against us. His voice was the loudest and the most effective." #RIPLarryKramer #ActUp #LGBThistory https://apnews.com/9525f22e3d9c78fc46378a060bf40f36
