Another great day. Day 2 of tile installation continues. The interior received a modern update a few months ago. Now its time to work on the outside. The 12x24 Cassero black tile, kind of looks a little like black concrete, is being installed in a horizontal pattern in two areas at the front of the house. Adding detail to your kitchen remodel can make all the difference in the end. Here I want to share something that we are doing with a kitchen remodel using modern style cabinet (flat panel doors, vertical grain, textured thermofoil material). I am using black metal for accents at the tile splash and cabinet hardware, and because the u-shaped island is very large I wanted to add some additional accents there to break up the long run of cabinets. So at the back sides custom str...ips were added in black. They are hardwood maple cut to uniform sizes and painted a glossy black to mimic metal. Then they are inserted between the back panels which were evenly sized based on my specifications. The end result looks great and maintains the color scheme. Another cabinet installation day for a kitchen remodel. This Escondido customer is getting his new kitchen with Gale blue base cabinets and Magnolia white upper cabinets. He opted for a couple of floating shelves in the corner to the left of the window. Can't wait to see it all come together. No more wasted space. This often hard to reach cabinet over the refrigerator now has a better purpose - for storage of cookie sheets, cutting boards and trays. The cabinet is 24" deep so most trays and sheets will fit, plus they are adjustable. In this case they are evenly spaced, but you can locate them as desired. No more wasted space in lower cabinets. Kitchen sinks are kind of a big deal since we spend so much time in the kitchen. One of the hottest items today is the single bowl sink. They offer more room to wash pots, pans, casserole dishes since there is no middle divider. They are also 2" to 3" deeper than the older style sinks. One of my favorite styles is made from a granite composite material - durable and stylish. Floating shelves are part of almost every remodel today. Some are strictly decorative in nature (holding very little weight) while others are built to hold larger amount of weight such as plates, glassware and books. Pictured here are 2-1/2" solid wood stained walnut floating shelves. They have been made as a single L-shape piece for each shelf. Tired of having shampoo bottles on the shower floor or tub ledge then consider adding a niche to your tub or shower. A recessed shelf area can be both functional and decorative. Here the niche is trimmed in ceramic edging, has decorative mosaic tile in the back and a glass shelf creating two shelves. The mosaic tile is color coordinated with the beveled subway tile. Completed bathroom remodel for one of our Escondido customers. What a transformation, all new from floor to ceiling. The customer likes the Urban Ranch style design which is a upscale rustic feel. The new go-to, low maintenance flooring that is taking the market by storm is Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring. Let me start by saying this is not your grandma's roll-out vinyl floor. Sometimes you just need a little something extra. In our remodels I am always looking for that unique piece, maybe a little bling, a wow item, or something that makes you go hmmm. In this case I was looking for light fixtures with a wood texture when I came across these Koa wood pendant lights. Loved the conical shape, the fact that almost the entire light was wood, and that it had a more finished look. And best of all it came with trim that matched the plumbing fixtures in the kitchen. These pendants now hang over their island.

I just realized I hadn't shared some of the almost completely done photos of the Escondido remodel with the plantation style theme from several weeks ago. This family with Hawaiian roots actually used the vibrant colors found in whole pineapples as their inspiration. To bring the overall project together it is accented with Koa wood fixtures, lava black pebble stone on the fireplaces, and new vinyl plank flooring throughout to resemble the look of natural wood floors with cha...racter. Even the bathroom guest bath received wood plank walls and a square bamboo vessel sink. The kitchen went from small and cramped to wide open with lots of incredible countertop space and a view of the mountains in the distance. She loves the apron-front sink. What's your inspiration?

Looking to add a little interest to your shower tile, consider accent tile. In our Tierrasanta condo remodel we have accented the 12x24 wall tiles laid horizontally with two bands of tile that line up with the tops of each of the wall niches. The accent tile is a beautiful combinations of white stone and glass called Arctic, a linear glass and stone blend, that gives off a shimmer when the light hits it.

Congratulations to the Laguna family in Escondido. We just finished their new kitchen featuring all wood Espresso colored cabinets with a modern panel door style and new Toasted Almond quartz countertops. Ladies and gentleman it is cabinet install day at another job site in Escondido. For this family with Hawaiian roots we are doing a Pineapple Themed color scheme featuring custom painted green and mango orange cabinets with coconut color wall paint. The countertop will be a seashell quartz. And the backsplash will be a custom painted minnow shaped tile laid horizontally to create a wave pattern.
