TODAY! Join us for the opening of panOPLY: An Exhibition of 6 L.A. Artists at Gallery 533. Hope you can make it.

Panoply is a group exhibition featuring the work of six contemporary Los Angeles artists and will include painting, drawing and sculpture. Bold in scope, this exhibition showcases work exploring themes of self, our behaviors and our environments. Artists include Max Gleason, a painter whose figures present a psychologically charged and transcendent foray into the inner workings of the self. His subjects are positioned in dimensions of decadence, amidst backdrops including gil...ding and sunrays that are in constant contradiction with a discontented subconscious. Julio Panisello, a painter also concerned with the figure, works in playful, cartoonish abstraction and investigates connections of religion and consumption. Billy Kheel is an artist whose work investigates themes of competition in unexpected places, animal spirits in religion, unexpected humor in horror, shifting definitions of masculinity, and the role of craft in memorialization and advertising. His cult pennants and graffiti pillows merge street art and domestic life. Jenny Hager creates paintings using a lexicon of lines and planes to create abstracted structures that invoke infinite space and bottomless vortexes. Her palette of dissolving, bright hues and sharp, hard-edge lines present at once a welcome invitation and cautionary warning. As well, the work of abstract painter Kate Davis Caldwell balances an ambiguity of appearance. Her process-driven work strives to find form out of chaos, the paint always wrestling into its final state until the very end. Ivan Deavy is an artist whose work is derived by the process of construction and destruction. His work ranges from live art performances and experimental art videos to large-scale paintings and intricate sewed images on paper. The imagery that he uses is often associated with religion and the search of sexual identity. This event is free and open to the public. Parking is available on street and in nearby parking garages/lots. Exhibition will be available by appointment only through April 30th.
