RIVER FIRE - CARMEL FIRE Lot to look at this morning. Take your time :) You can see that Central to Northern California is pretty much its own fire zone. Air A...ttack spent late last evening making sure the west end of the River Fire did not get to San Benancio Road. This mornings heat maps says they were successful. The south end of the River Fire got to Palo Escrito last night. The River Fire still at 33,653 Acres and remain only 7% contained. The Carmel Fire is 4,285 Acres and 0% contained. The River Fire is actively burning within Toro Regional Park and continues to move west toward Hwy 68. The Copters yesterday were focused on spot fires in Las Palamas. These crews were real work horses yesterday. The evacuation of both Indian Springs and Las Palamas yesterday must have been crazy. The Carmel Fire is still pushing south unheeded. With limited resources CalFire is providing specific targeted protection as the fire passes through. You can see how close the two fires are at the south end. If they follow the natural drainage topography they should soon be sharing Carmel Vally Road. We'll have to see if CalFire then renames the two fires as a Complex Fire. Monterey County OES has already created a Mandatory Evacuation Zone 13 between the two fires. They did that yesterday. Air Attack 460 was over the River Fire this morning doing a survey. So far, no other aircraft are on either fires as yet. Could be due to visibility issues from the smoke. The winds will pick again by noon, we'll see what happens then. Stay safe!
