BLACK HISTORY MONTH Valentine's Day Edition On January 6, 1959 Richard and Mildred Loving were convicted of interracial marriage and were banished from the state of Virginia. Their union was a criminal act in Virginia because Richard was white and Mildred was black - it was not until June 12, 1967 that the Loving's won a US Supreme Court decision striking down bans of interracial marriage throughout the country.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH Constance Baker Motley became the first black woman to be appointed to a federal judgeship. On January 25, 1966 Motley was nominated by President Lyndon B. Johnson and she went on to serve as a Chief Judge from 1982-1986. Motley broke down barriers for generations to come and continues to be a prime example of perseverance and dedication.
