Coach Gomez was chosen for an NFHS California State Coach of the Year Award for the 2019-2020 school year! We are extremely grateful for Coach Gomez and the positive impact he has had at FCS! Coach Gomez started coaching in the year 2000 and has been working at FCS for 6 years! He has coached Varsity Boys Baseball, Varsity Girls Basketball, Junior High Baseball, Basketball, and Softball, and Elementary Basketball. Last year the Varsity Girls Basketball team won the BCL Champi...onship and in the last complete baseball season, the Varsity Boys Baseball team won the North Coast Sections Championship! Coach Gomez also teaches PE at FCS and has taught students from kindergarten through 12th grade! His biggest sports inspiration is his father who coached him when he was younger. He says, He taught me the game, and how to play it the right way. His advice to young athletes is, to always respect the game, respect your opponent, and always put God first. He is grateful for those he has gotten to work with and coach. He says, I could not have been nominated for this award if it were not for my fantastic assistant coaches, Coach Woodman and Coach Chamberlain, and all the wonderful student-athletes I have had the honor to coach. Last week was our Operation Christmas Child Kick-Off rally! Every year we partner with Operation Christmas Child and pack shoe boxes full of gifts to give back to children in need. We love to celebrate giving and we love Ms. Hitson’s celebratory outfit!

Today we are honoring National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalist, Karen Ly! Karen is a very accomplished student and was also has also received the FCS outstanding student award in biological science. At Fremont Christian, she sings in the Concert and Chamber Choir. She has taken part in multiple of our musicals. In her free-time she volunteers at a food bank, tutors younger students, and proofreads Wikipedia articles. She plans to attend college and major in Microbio...logy. We are so proud of you, Karen! Today we are honoring National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalist, Alice Zhou. She discovered her interest in math after joining a math program taught by high schoolers, Math Olympiad for Elementary and Middle School, in 4th grade. After entering high school she wanted to give back by volunteering to teach a younger group of elementary students and introducing them to the fun of math. She has taught over 40 students in the past 2 years, and will be returning to coach a...gain this year. Additionally, she organized a free, virtual math program over the summer, where, for 2 weeks, she taught students for 4.5 hours every day to give them a head start or review of traditional school math concepts, as well as an introduction to math and logic puzzles and riddles. After the long process of researching and preparing materials, finding other student volunteers to help answer participant questions, and advertising to students across the nation, hearing words of affirmation and gratitude from parents and students alike helped confirm that it was all worth it. In addition to her appreciation for math, Alice has also taken an interest in computer science. She aims to combine her two interests and pursue a data science major in college. We are so proud of you, Alice! Today we are honoring National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalist, Simeon Godwin. Simeon is a highly accomplished student and the current Student Body President of our high school. He volunteers in the community through his church youth group, which visits Love-A-Child missions, a homeless recovery shelter for women and children. They share meals with residents, host worship services, pack meals for the homeless, and give toys to children with incarcerated parents. Aft...er high school, he plans to attend a four-year university and study data science. His career goal is to work in the field of data analytics. We are so proud of you, Simeon! Seniors Simeon Godwin, Karen Ly, and Alice Zhou have been announced as 3 of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 66th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. The FCS Class of 2021 has 49 members. These academically talented high school seniors will continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million that will be offered next spring. Over 1.5 million juniors in about 21,000 schools entered the 2021 National Merit Scholarsh...ip program by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors. Congratulations, Simeon, Karen and Alice! Warrior Banana Slug Today Eden Mercado (FCS Class of 2020) started college with the University of California, Santa Cruz where she is majoring in Human Biology. She writes, "I am looking forward to exploring new classes and learning from professors involved in major scientific studies and research. Of course, I will be awaiting that in-person class and college experience!" Regarding Fremont Christian, she writes, "I definitely miss the kind and welcoming community ... ...and the teachers that I grew close to with my time spent there." She is also going to miss the fine arts department, including her involvement in the Traditional Jazz Band and Choir. We are so proud of you Eden!
