October 26 marks the National Day of the Deployed. This day honors all service members who have been deployed in service of our country. The day also acknow...ledges the sacrifices that military families make during deployment. The first National Day of the Deployed was observed in 2006, when North Dakota announced a proclamation for the day, thanks to Shelle Michaeles Aberle, who petitioned Governor John Hoevento with the idea. October 26 was chosen for the date in honor of Shelle's cousin, LTC David Hosna, who had been deployed to Iraq (the day was Hosna's birthday). By 2012, every state in the US was observing this day. We would like to take a moment to recognize and honor all of the 2 and 4 legged heroes and their families for the ultimate sacrifice they make for our country. In today’s video, at 8 weeks of age, Freedom Dog Russell is already learning self-control and automatic eye contact. Enjoy seeing Russell wait patiently for... a treat instead of lunging or mouthing at the trainer. To take it one step further, once Russell establishes eye contact with his trainer, he is then rewarded with a treat. Today is NATIONAL PETS FOR VETERANS DAY - Wednesday, October 21, 2020 Service dogs give the unconditional love and loyalty of a pet but they of course do so mu...ch more than that. Since Freedom Dogs aid in the function of their Marines, they could be considered a form of a medical device. When a Freedom Dog senses that his Marine is getting anxious, the Freedom Dog will nudge the Marine in an attempt to break up the pattern. And if necessary, the Freedom Dog will guide the Marine to a safe and quiet place to regroup. Tuesday’s Tail Wagging Tips: Juvenile (Elementary Age) - 12 weeks to approximately 9 months During this stage, puppies become progressively more indepe...ndent as juveniles. As puppies mature, the ease of learning begins to decline by about 16 weeks of age. The optimal time for social and environmental exposure is prior to 16 weeks of age yet socialization during the juvenile period and beyond is still beneficial and necessary. Discontinuance of socialization beyond the socialization period will cause dogs to regress and become fearful. Between 12 weeks of age and 16 weeks of age, puppies become progressively more reluctant to approach novelty and unfmiliary people without apprehension and fear responses. - excerpt from Puppy Start Right by Debbie Martin, RVT & Kenneth M Martin, DMV Please click on the link in our bio to learn more about how our specialty - trained service dogs are helping wounded military heroes overcome the challenges of PTSD. #FreedomDogsOrganization #HeroesforOurHeroes #dogtraining #clickertraining #positivereinforcement #forcefree #puppiesintraining #dogtrainers #servicedog #servicedogintraining #workingdog #assistancedog #onduty #donotpet #ptsd #usmc #marinecorps #blacklab #lab #labrador #labpuppy #labsofinsta #Tailwaggingtips See more

Freedom Dogs Friday It’s one thing to train a dog to retrieve but it’s a lot harder for dogs to learn how to pick up items gently. Think your remote control... and cell phone. If a service dog doesn’t learn how to hold things gently, it can be very expensive for the owner of those items and we certainly don’t want that.
