Love reading about St. Edward the Confessor Dana Point. I remember when Fr. Steve Sallot came as our 'temorary' pastor. So glad that he was selected as our Pastor shortly afterward.
A Place to Call Home After building the first church, (now called Knight Hall), plans were set in motion to construct a rectory, a place the clergy could call h...ome located on the property, as was the usual custom then. Once more, blueprints were created with a multi-purpose function in mind. A two-story dwelling place was built with offices for clergy, a large kitchen, dining room, and meeting room on the first floor. Private living quarters that could serve four priests were constructed upstairs, two with amazing views of the ocean. But most memorable was the main parish office on the first floor where the Faith Formation Office is now located. Anything related to church business went through those doors and to Jo Sliney, the parish secretary. I can still picture her sitting at her desk, every hair in place, her big eyes peering at you from behind big round glasses. Jo and her husband Ed, pillars of the community, were the overseers of all parish administration for many years. When the permanent church opened in 1995, the main parish, clergy, and business offices moved to their new locations adjacent to the church. The vacated rectory spaces were used for accounting and other administrative functions. At first, there seemed to be ample space for everyone but over the next five years, the city of Dana Point doubled in population and so did our parish community. We were clearly out-growing the space once again and the talk about building a pastoral center became the main focus of conversation. (To be continued.) Posts for the month of April are a series of reflections before demolition of the old and construction of the new buildings at St. Edward the Confessor Parish. by DC

The KOFC Council 12451 Dana Point, CA have many fond memories of Knight Hall. Many of us were there for RCIA as we decided to convert to the Catholic faith. Please share your stories . . .
A Fitting Remembrance Yesterday, portable buildings arrived at the parish, soon be constructed in our parking lot. Within the month, the staff that currently oc...cupies the church offices, "old rectory," and Knight Hall will permanently move out to make way for demolition, a new occurrence on this land. When Fr. Louis Knight came from Los Angeles to the sleepy little town of Dana Point in 1968, he stood on a primitive landscape and gazed at a sweeping view of the Pacific Ocean. His mission to construct a new South County parish loomed ahead. Not knowing a soul, this shy Scotsman began by building a temporary church (now known as Knight Hall) and a rectory. About twelve years later, I moved to Dana Point and fell in love with the parish after experiencing an outside mass at the stone altar in front of the shrine to Our Lady of Guadalupe. Eventually, our paths crossed and Fr. Knight coaxed me into ministry, my life's passion for the past 35 years. As we prepare to say farewell to the oldest structures on our property, I will write my reflections each day and invite you to post yours as a fitting remembrance. by DC

Christ became obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every other name. #GoodFriday
A little reminder to have fun . . .
