An important message from Mrs. Shelton: January 7, 2021 Dear Franklin School Families,... Happy New Year! I hope that your holidays were merry and bright! I truly wish for everyone a brighter and healthier 2021! Franklin School will reopen for in-person learning (Grades K 4) on Tuesday, January 19. Fifth Grade students will return to in-person instruction on February 1. We will be returning to our AM/PM model. Please note that on Wednesdays, students will stay home and ZOOM to give the custodial staff time to deep clean the campus. Wednesday afternoons are also used to provide afternoon collaboration/planning time for teachers. Within a few weeks, it is our goal to have all students in Grades K 3 on the SAME schedule, but we want to open cautiously and safely and the hybrid model allows us to do this. In order to reopen in-person learning, please note that all safety protocols must be followed. One new change is that students in Grades K- 2 will have to wear masks while in class. No masks need to be worn while eating, drinking, or engaging in physical activity. Please ensure that your child wears a mask when entering the campus. Please also remember to send your child with a water bottle, as the drinking fountains have been closed. Grades 6 8 are on hold right now due to the fact that we are in the Purple Tier. As soon as we move into the red tier, and we complete staff vaccinations, we will bring our 6th 8th grade students back on campus. Our projected date is March 1st. The end of the second trimester is February 26, so the timing would be perfect! How wonderful to have a third trimester with all students on campus! Distance Learning is still an option for parents wishing to keep their children home at this time. Please let your child’s teacher or the office know if Distance Learning is still your preference at this time. I ask that students and all siblings who have Covid-19 symptoms stay home for a minimum of 24 hours. They can return if they are symptom-free and if they have not been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19. Franklin families and students who have had any possible exposure should self-quarantine and be tested immediately until a negative result is received/ and/or self quarantine for 14 days. This has been an extremely difficult year. I appreciate your patience and understanding as we work together to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Stronger Together, Lisa Shelton Superintendent/Principal

An important message from Mrs. Shelton: December 18, 2020 Dear Franklin School Families, ... I want to wish all of you a wonderful holiday season! I hope that this holiday season brings forth a brighter and healthier 2021!!!!! School resumes on January 4, 2021. At this time, all students will begin with Distance Learning. I know that we are all anxious to get back to in-person learning, but this will be predicated on the COVID positive cases going down in our area. I feel that it is prudent to watch how the community does for the two weeks following Christmas break, and then make decisions on bringing students back to campus. If all goes well, in-person learning will begin on January 19 for Grades K-5. Grades 6th 8th cannot resume in-person learning until Yuba City goes back to the red tier, so we are anxiously watching those trends. On January 19th we will begin with our hybrid AM/PM model, however, I am hoping to move grades K-3 to whole class as early as February. Schedules will be forthcoming. Please note that the lottery for Inter-District transfer requests has been moved to Monday, February 22, from 7:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. The change of date and time is to allow the public to safely enter the office. The extended time allows families to have more time in their schedule to participate in the lottery, as well as not creating a crowded situation. Good luck to anyone participating in the lottery! Go Bulldogs! Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I wish all of you a joyous holiday season! Sincerely, Lisa Shelton

An important message from Mrs. Shelton: December 3, 2020 Dear Franklin School Parents,... It is with heavy heart that I am announcing that Franklin School will continue with Distance Learning until after the winter break. This decision was not made lightly! The Franklin School staff met yesterday to discuss the reality of opening for in-person learning during a time where Sutter County COVID numbers (positive tests) are the highest in the state! The staff unanimously would like all students back on campus. However, the current reality seems to suggest that if we open classrooms it would only be a matter of time before we had to shut them down again due to a staff member or student testing positive. The safety of the children, the staff and your family needs to be the top priority right now. The Christmas holiday is around the corner and everyone deserves to end 2020 with some holiday cheer, not COVID sickness. Although the decision to remain on Distance Learning is the right one during this time, I am also keenly aware of what this is doing to students on a social/emotional level. If you feel that your student needs counseling, we do have a school counselor here two days a week and she is wonderful. Mrs. Peters is available to meet with students, so please do not hesitate to reach out if counseling is something you feel would benefit your child. The next question you might ask is, What happens in January? I wish I had the answer. Will the holidays increase the number of cases once again? I do not know. The uncertainty of the future is something that I think about on a daily basis. It may be that we have to continue Distance Learning the week of January 4, just to monitor the situation. I would like to return to in-person learning in 2021. What a wonderful way that would be celebrate the new year! However, this will all be predicated on our community doing what we need to do to bring the positive test numbers down. Please join me in wearing a mask and practicing the safety tenets established by the medical community! I will be assessing the situation over the winter break. As I gain information pertinent to school re-opening, I will share this with families via an email or through the auto-dialer. Please ensure that all of your contact information is current in order to receive important information. Please also help us stay healthy by notifying the office if your child is absent due to COVID-related illness. The tracking of students and staff is a responsibility of the Lauries in the office, and I know that they appreciate your help in keeping cases contained. I wish all of you a happy and healthy holiday!!! I miss the daily activity of a live campus more than I can say. My strength and optimism lies in the knowledge that we will be together again. I can’t say exactly when, but I know that it will happen! Stronger Together, Mrs. Shelton
