The weather is heating up, and just a reminder, it’s NEVER a good idea to leave a pet in the car, regardless of how cool you think it is, how quick you are going to be, if you park in the shade, or if you crack the windows. A car can heat up very fast, unforseen circumstances could make your errand take longer than anticipated, and someone could break into your car and take your pet (the person could have good intentions of rescuing your pet, or nefarious intentions to steal ...or harm your pet). Here are some easy alternatives to leaving your pet in the car: Leave your pet at home, with a big bowl of water and a fan blowing. Hungry? Use the drive-thru and eat in the car or at a park, or find a restaurant with a pet-friendly patio. Shopping? Bring a trusted buddy to hang out with your pet outside the store while you run in (do not tie your pet up unattended outside!) or shop at a pet-friendly store... like the Foster Army Thrift Store. Need to use the restroom? Find a gas station with outdoor-access restrooms and take your pet with you (okay, it’s a little weird having them watch you go... but they potty in front of you with no shame!) Plan your adventures in advance, so you know where all the pet-friendly places are! Use social media to ask for recommendations... the pet-loving social community will be happy to help you and your pet have a safe and fun outing! Kittens, kittens everywhere! The majority of the pets we take in are ill, injured, bottle babies, special needs, or seniors, but one thing all of our kitties have in common is their thunderous purrs! Lots of animals make purring-type noises, such as gorillas, rabbits, mongooses, hyenas, and even large cats such as bobcats and cheetahs, but domestic cars and genets are the only species that create True Purrs. That means they purr continuously while inhaling and exhaling. Other... species only make similar purr-like sounds while they exhale. The frequency range of a domestic cat’s purr is distinctive from other species (25-150 Hz), and is said to have healing properties for humans and other cats, in particular for bone density, broken bones, and stress. Cats don’t always purr when happy or content; they also purr to self-sooth when they are in pain, stressed, and giving birth. Kittens learn to purr at only a few days old, and mother and babies purr to each other while nursing - possibly to help cement their bond. Want to help our felines purr a little louder?
