Who doesn't love a good before + after? At the start of this project, the clients and I had considered the possibility of painting over the existing kitchen cabinets, but unfortunately, they weren't quite worth saving... Another benefit with remodeling the entire kitchen is that we were able to remove the soffit to create more space - with tall family members, this was a priority for the client. For the new kitchen, we designed custom cabinets with a modern take on Shak...er and opened up the space by the sink by flanking it with visually light open shelving. A favorite detail here is the custom countertop edge profile which makes the quartzite counters appear deceptively thin. We're back from hiatus! Besides all that's been going on with the world, we were in the process of moving the past couple weeks. More about that later. For now, I'm going to share a local Bay Area artist named Troy Chew @troylamarr. I first saw Troy's work at @headlandsarts where he recently completed a fellowship program, and it was his work that stayed with me the most because of its power. In Troy's words: My work explores the African Diaspora within the urban cult...ure. I’m interested in comparing and contrasting past African culture and traditions to Black culture through the depiction of black bodies and objects through oil paintings, drawings, and sculptures. I’m interested in dealing with language translation/mistranslation, black/urban life, and ideas of high art and low art. In my series Out the Mud, I plan to reference all African countries involved in the Transatlantic-slave trade. This series speaks to the rip in the cultural fabric of African Americans, and the several negative and positive paths taken to repair and continue the fabric. Slanguage is a reference to the colloquial speech rooted in urban areas. I am painting still lifes that deal with the linguistics of urban vernacular while contrasting my visual language to that used in Dutch and Flemish still lifes. Share here are the following works: - For Free 2018, a response to Freddie Gray's murder - We Can’t Breathe 2018, a response to Eric Garner's murder - Strange Fruit 2016, a reflection on how easily a black life can be lost for simply doing nothing ##defundthepolice #blacklivesmatter #nojusticenopeace #blackcreatives #blackartists #buyblackart #investinblackart #contemporaryart #socialjustice #blackart #modernart #bidnally @ San Francisco, California See more

Finding inspiration from the beautiful work of Ruth Duckworth (1919-2009), a modernist sculptor who started as a stone mason in Britain. Ruth didn't turn to ceramics until her 40s, and her sculptural work was influenced by Henry Moore, Constantin Brancusi, Isamu Noguchi along with Egyptian, Mexican and Cycladic art. #ruthduckworth #modernism @ San Francisco, California

Happy Easter to all! The symbolism of eggs - new life and rebirth - applies in this particular case, a newly renovated kitchen. A bathroom from our #FFLakeStreetModernClassic developer project. It was important to our client to have double vanities in the bathrooms despite some tight spaces, but we made it work with a single vanity mirror and hanging pendants taking up minimal space. Design: @formandfield : @rbradleyphoto
