FoodWhat Family- Bringing you a FW update on this GORGEOUS Friday! We’re back from Spring Break and our program is flourishing with insight and community. This week, one of our cohorts, the self-proclaimed Kale Crew, looked to the past and to their own family histories as they shared about their family’s Remedios- traditional healing remedies and medicines that have been passed down through our lineages of ancestors. In doing so, the youth had insight into the liberation... that can occur as a result of a direct connection to their herbal allies. FW youth are thinking about health in a way that puts them at the center of their own healing. This week they handcrafted individualized sleepy time and anxiety-relieving tea bags with healing herbs like lavender, chamomile, and rose. As Program Manager, Irene says We can access health, be creative and take into our own hands, like, literally handcraft the medicines that can be helpful to us. #community #foodismedicine #YouthPower #remediosnaturales

FoodWhat?! Friday! Happy to be in community with youth from all over the county again. Back to the land and it feels amazing! We’ve met some new youth, and are continuing to learn from some returning Alumni. Of course- we have our furry friends at the farm back as well! The famous Fast Food Jeopardy is back out in the open air, youth are connecting directly with the soil and even starting to grow their own food in their own self-made "garden buckets" at home! This feels like FoodWhat Spring.
Flashback Friday! A year ago to the day we were wrapping up our first week of Spring Programming and ready to face a new year of programs. In spite of all that was 2020, answering the needs of youth in crisis remained our priority. As we look back we also invite you to check out our 2020 Annual Report to see how we responded to this need: https://pdfhost.io/v/4PNjHNv1v_FW_AR_2019_email_20JAN21pdf.... Stay tuned next week as we'll be updating y'all with the start of our Spring 2021 Program!

Wow! What a Summer! Congratulations to the youth who just completed the 7 week FoodWhat Summer 2020 Virtual Program! We loved growing and cooking food with you and your families. Even though we weren't able to be on the farm together, we still built community together in a way that was safe and meaningful. Plus we were eatin' good. Check out our Virtual Summer highlight reel for more pics of our summer! #foodwhatfarm #foodwhatvirtualsummer # growingfoodathome
