On July 5, 1980 at approximately 1640 hours, Victim Michelle Jones was found murdered in a grapefruit grove located in the area of Live Oak Ave and Santa Ana A...ve in the City of Fontana. Responding officers located Victim Michelle Jones deceased. An autopsy was performed on Vicitm Michelle Jones shortly after her body was discovered. During the autopsy, forensic evidence was collected but was unable to be processed due to the lack of technology at the time. Detectives exhausted all investigative leads in 1980 and the case went cold. In 2020, items of evidence that were previously collected at Victim Michelle Jones’ autopsy were sent to the Riverside/San Bernardino CAL-DNA Laboratory for processing. DNA was located and was identified as an unknown single male contibutor. This profile was entered into CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) and no positive matches were present in the system. Investigators conducted follow-up interviews with Victim Michelle Jones’ family members which lead to Leonard Nash as a person of interest in the investigation. In June of 2020, Investigators located Leonard Nash in Las Vegas, Nevada and collected his discarded DNA. These items containing Leonard Nash’s DNA were sent to the Riverside/ San Bernardino CAL-DNA Laboratory to be directly compared to the DNA collected at Vicitm Jones’ autopsy. The results of the comparisson revealed the DNA collected from Victim Jones at her autopsy were a match to Leonard Nash’s DNA. Investigators obtained a warrant for Leonard Nash’s arrest and he was taken into custody on 09/08/2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Suspect Leonard Nash is currently awaiting extradition to San Bernardino County, California. @fontanapd #Fontana #CityOfFontana #FontanaPD #SBSO #ColdCase #1980s #Detectives #Homicide #SuspectArrested #JusticeDelayedNeverDenied

For several years now we have partnered with a local elementary school to read books to their children about America in remembrance of 9/11. The school’s Patri...ot’s Day was an event our staff looked forward to each year. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we were unable to read to the children in person this year. We decided to continue with a virtual version of Patriots Day to continue with this tradition and share the event with everyone. We hope you enjoy watching Officer Mark Wyrick and K9 Goose reading America The Beautiful in remembrance of 9/11. Most of us are parents and we understand the struggles in this virtual learning world. We hope these videos will bring some joy to your children and virtual classrooms. Thank you to our teachers and parents. We will always remember our first responders and the loved ones lost on 9/11. This book will make a wonderful addition to your home or classroom. Samson @k9samson was born in the Czech Republic in July of 2009, purchased and imported to Adlerhorst Kennels in Riverside where the Fontana Police K9 Pals pu...rchased and donated him to the Fontana Police Department. After certification, Samson served the Fontana citizens and his four handlers for nearly 8 years, one of the longest serving police K9s in the history of the K9 unit. Samson was certified as an apprehension, narcotics and gun detection K9. During his service, Samson was credited with approximately 73 apprehensions, the seizure of approximately 1 ton of narcotics and over $2.5 million dollars in U.S. currency, and saved an estimated 7,500-man hours with his olfactory ability. - Samson retired in August of 2018 where he lived with his final handler enjoying long walks, playing with the numerous toys gifted to him during his retirement party, visiting elementary school students performing demonstrations, swimming in his pool at home and enjoying the Colorado river! He made occasional visits to the police department & K9 trainings to visit his human & K9 colleagues whom he never forgot. - Sadly, in February of 2020, Samson had emergency surgery where it was discovered he had two cancerous tumors on his spleen, all of which were removed. He made a brief recovery; however, on April 2nd, 2020, his handler made the very emotional and difficult decision to let Samson rest in peace. Thank you to all the men & women of the Fontana Police Department with whom he interacted and made a positive impact on his long and successful career, especially his former handlers, trainers and the members of the Fontana Police K9 Pals. - Samson will be sorely missed. It was my honor to have been his final partner. R.I.P. K9 Samson Officer R. L-R: Travis Parke, Det Luis Valenzuela, Ofc Jason Delair (President Fontana POA) & Cristina Parke. Travis and Cristina Parke are owners of California Recycler...s, a local Fontana business. Just like Fontana POA, California Recyclers is Connected with the Community. One of Fontana POA’s principal community connections is our on-going barbecue program. Each month throughout the year, we barbecue at numerous community events. We needed a commercial grade freezer to store food. Through our partnership with the Fontana Chamber of Commerce, Travis and Cristina learned we needed a freezer. Our thanks to California Recyclers. The freezer will help us better serve the community. Also, the donation represents the full circle of community connections: Police Business Social Sector Faith-Based Government. Because we are Connected with the Community, we are collectively making Fontana a better place to live, work, play and invest. ABOUT CALIFORNIA RECYCLERS California Recyclers serves communities throughout Southern California and is well known for their efficiency, superior customer service and cleanliness.
