Three years ago today, the Hump Flight was accomplished after 96 days of challenges and perils as the US & AU crew (all but one was in his 70s) faced and overcame them while flying nearly 7000 miles from near Sydney, AU over the Himalayas (the Hump) into China. The 72 year old aircraft is now on proud display in a new glass-walled hangar at the 23-acre Flying Tigers Heritage Park & Museum outside beautiful Guilin, China. The 16,000 sq. ft. museum honors the story of the Flying Tigers and the China-Burma-India (CBI) theater and the cooperation of the Americans and Chinese who fought a brutal enemy together.
Buzz Buggy's Glass enclosure (hangar) is almost done. First picture. It will house the artifacts associated with the hump flying and our flight. While fighter and bomber pilots get most of the recognition, in reality, it is the transport pilots that were more important to China's survival in WWII. Flying the Hump was the most dangerous flying in WWII. More transport pilots were killed than fighter and bomber pilots combined.
Latest picture of building being placed to house Buzz Buggy in Flying Tiger Heritage Park.
