Good morning aviators. We have a beautiful rainbow over our favorite place today. Ceiling and visibility are pretty inhibited but it's a beautiful day to be at the airport with hot coffee and maybe a little studying. Happy Friday !

Happy Tuesday aviators! Here's a little gem of aviation knowledge for students that may not have come across it. We learn early on that immediately after startup we adjust the throttle to approx. 1000 RPM (based on AFM/POH specs). Why is this important ? Immediately after starting, it takes time for oil pressure to build and begin lubricating the system. The AFM/POH may specify an acceptable oil pressure range after startup (the green arc in a 172R such as N365ES is 50-90PSI). Depending on outside air temperature, it takes between 30 and 60 seconds for this pressure to rise. Operating at higher engine RPM with oil pressure below this value may cause undue engine wear as a result of insufficient lubrication during this period.

Here's a piece of flight training trivia that you may or may not have come across before. In an aircraft equipped with a constant speed propeller (such as the 172RG), what is the first indication of carburetor ice ?
