Thurgood Marshall was born on July 2, 1908, in Maryland, a time when Black people were discriminated against in southern states. In 1967, President Lyndon B. Johnson appointed him as the first African-American justice to serve on the Supreme Court. He continued to fight for civil rights, using the law to protect all people. During his 24-year term as Supreme Court justice, Marshall’s passionate support for individual and civil rights guided his policies and decisions. Most h...istorians regard him as an influential figure in shaping social policies and upholding laws to protect minorities. Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka (1954), a landmark case, was considered Marshall’s greatest victory as a civil-rights lawyer. A group of Black parents whose children were required to attend segregated schools filed a class-action lawsuit. The Supreme Court unanimously ruled that separate educational facilities are inherently unequal. #BlackHistoryMonth #FalconPRIDE https://drive.google.com//1d7XxjuY4TgthTSHgaF3z1Ohdm/view See more

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1929. At the time in that part of the country, segregationor the separation of races in places like schools, buses, and restaurantswas the law. He experienced racial prejudice from the time he was very young, which inspired him to dedicate his life to achieving equality and justice for Americans of all colors. King believed that peaceful refusal to obey unjust law was the best way to bring about social change. He... was a Baptist preacher, and the son of a Baptist preacher, As King prophetically told a crowd at the Mason Temple Church in Memphis on April 3, the night before he died, I’ve seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight that we, as a people, will get to the promised land. https://drive.google.com//1YzmXgAAec7kUFCdvL3ncepITL/view See more

John Lewis fought for equality during the civil rights movement, marching with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., against oppression and risking his life for justice. Through grit and determination, he went from sitting on bus seats as an act of civil disobedience during the Freedom Rides to sitting in the halls of Congress as a champion for civil liberties.
