"What did you call me?" The Dik-dik is one of Africa’s most unusual antelope. They're tiny and adorable animals, barely large enough to poke their heads above the grass. Dik-diks get their name from their call, which is an onomatopoeia for the whistling warning sound shouted by the femalesa high-pitched shrill a little like dik-dik, dik-dik. #FaunaFriday
It's #WomeninSTEMWednesday! Today we highlight the work of Dr. Alexa Irene Canady. Dr. Canady is the first African American woman in the United States to become a neurosurgeon. She specialized in pediatric neurosurgery and was the chief of neurosurgery at the Children's Hospital in Michigan from 1987 until her partial retirement in 2001. In addition to surgery, she also conducted research and was a professor of neurosurgery at Wayne State University. Her contributions, particularly in the management of hydrocephalus and dysraphism, are widespread and led to numerous publications and presentations.
Grace Hopper was an American computer scientist and United States Navy rear admiral. A true pioneer in the field, she was one of the first programmers of the Harvard Mark I computer and invented the first compiler for a computer programming language. She popularized the idea of machine-independent programming languages, which led to the development of COBOL, one of the first modern programming languages. Hopper is credited with popularizing the term "debugging" for fixing computer glitchesinspired by an actual moth removed from the computer! #WomeninSTEMWednesday
Doesn't this #SpaceSunday image look like an abstract painting? This splash of colors is in fact a busy star-forming complex known as Rho Ophiuchi. NASA's WISE (Wide-field Infrared Space Explorer) captured the picturesque image of the region, which is one of the closest star-forming complexes to Earth. Image Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/UCLA.
Building #automata is one of our favorite activities at Studio X! In this #Fleet2Go, Jackie shows you how to create automata that go round and round. It's a great way to explore how cams and levers work, as well as incorporating movement into your art.

Get your #SundayFunday started with this amazing #SpaceSunday! This beautiful image is the Lagoon Nebula, located 4,000 light-years away from Earth. At the center of this image is a star 200,000 times brighter than our Sun, blasting powerful UV radiation and strong stellar winds, which carve a landscape of ridges, cavities and mountains of gas and dust.
