Five Points Youth Foundation Inc. Founder Ambassador Diane E. Watson Honored during International Women’s Month Ambassador Diane Edith Watson, retired U.S. Congresswoman and former California Senator, was virtually hosted and honored during the SouLA Collective’s HerStory Women’s Appreciation ceremony on March 30, 2021. She attended as guest of H.H. Andrew Williams, Jr., President of Five Points Youth Foundation (FPYF), which was founded in 1984 as the Diane E. Watson Sem...i-Pro Sports Authority, before changing its name in 1991. The occasion at the Leimert Park 5 Star Market was sponsored by the Cycle of Success and co-hosted by women whom Amb. Watson has influenced throughout her career. That included Princess Tshepi Motloung, representing the Batlokwa Nation based in Gauteng, South Africa and Los Angeles native, the legendary Delphine Silkyd Williams, Universal Hip Hop Museum (UHHM) Entertainment Director and FPYF International Goodwill Ambassador. The event was also attended by Sir Bailey, Free LA High School educator and founder of TheLivingWellTour that was launched at FPYF in 2016. Both also joined in the 2017 awarding of a Certificate of Appreciation to Ambassador Watson, along with SilkyD, Daude Sherrills and Charles D Sharp (not pictured), CEO of the Black Emergency Managers Association (BEMA) International visiting from Washington, D.C. for Thelivingwelltour event. Joining them was LATTC Department of Architecture and Environmental Design Professor Marcela Oliva and Founder of the EncounterLA Community Think Tank and Advisory Board. In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Sentinel, Watson spoke about her life and says that the basis of her acts-of-service comes from her upbringing and the support and lessons learned from her family. Borrowing a quote from her friend and sorority sister, Vice President Kamala Harris, Watson restated the quote I may have been the first, but I will not be the last, noted the former Senator.
