Throwback Thursday! Today I'm celebrating the privilege I had a few years back, of coaching this amazing hard working woman, Stacey. She's a busy nurse, wife and mother who had decided years prior, that she wanted to take charge of her health. Stacey followed my coaching plan to a T, which led to an incredible 13 lb weight loss in her first month. She also shed 7 inches off her physique in that first month. At the end of just 2 months, she dropped an incredible 18 lbs! ... Her plan consisted of weight training, and a macro based plan that we switched up at 4 week intervals. Make clear priorities for what you want to achieve in life, things that will help you grow into the person you want to be. Instead of saying, "I want to lose 10,20, 30 lbs by February..", how about, "I want to lead a healthy lifestyle", and make it a PRIORITY to make the kind of choices that will start that ball rolling permanently. Making positive decisions about your life course is much easier than trying to break little negative habits with no true focus as to what you ar...e trying to accomplish in the long run. CLIENT BEFORE AND AFTER: So proud of my client @crystalinwonderland87 for sticking to her plan and reaching her goals!! This is her progress after a little less than 4 months. About Crystal's plan: 1) She lifted weights 5 days a week CONSISTENTLY. 2) She did minimal cardio (I purposely asked her to cut back. 3) She ate CARBS (in fact, she splurged once in awhile, but kept her macros in check ). 4) She quit her obsession with the scale, because she lost pounds of fat and gained lean muscle! WAY TO GO CRYSTAL, YOU ROCK!! P.S.. She still isn't done, she's found a fit lifestyle she loves and can still enjoy food and be fit! Love you Crystal, so amazed by your hard work!!

The biggest fitness mistake you're making RIGHT NOW: You want it too fast. You want to lose the weight TOMORROW, so you're drastically cutting calories, doing massive amounts of cardio every day, that's all you care about, is that the scale reflects a lower number.. But you're not taking care of your metabolism by these short term fast tactic weight dropping techniques. You're losing muscle, and actually setting your metabolism up for a huge drop in calorie burn... Which once... you stop this drastic weight loss mission stuff, will inevitably lead to weight gain... Again! (But this time, you'll gain back pure fat..) Nurture your metabolism by a proper workout plan (which includes moderate cardio and gasp, days of rest! ), and a proper eating plan that includes all the necessary muscle preserving macronutrients. Do it right, and the results will last. -

I have a confession to make: After 18 years of a fit lifestyle, I took a full year off of going to the gym and keeping up with healthy eating habits. A full year of not stepping foot in the gym, and a full year of eating what I wanted when I wanted (for the most part, some habits never die, I still kept mental track of calories and avoided certain foods, etc.) I ate complete crap on most days, or skipped meals because I was too busy. I ended up taking that year off (last ...year) because I felt like I would go farther and get more done, accomplish more, if I just eliminated that extra "chore" from my schedule. I was wrong. It made me physically sick. I suffered from migraines, high blood pressure, insomnia, vertigo, depression, anxiety, and a huge drop in energy and self confidence, which is hard for a superhero to admit! I'm happy to say I'm back in my realm, eating healthy, working out regularly, and feeling like a champ again. I'm sleeping better, vertigo is dissipating, blood pressure is dropping, migraines are lessening, and thank God for muscle memory: my cuts are coming back. Whatever your unhealthy confession is, always remember that an unhealthy diet and lack of exercise are a recipe for illness, and a healthy lifestyle is medicine for both mind and body. I swear by it. -

Cardio or weights?? Actually, both! A well rounded weight loss plan includes both of these activities in your routine. But your concentration should lean towards building and preserving lean muscle mass (strength training). Putting on just 3 lbs of muscle could spark your metabolism to where you could burn an extra 120 calories a day, just from doing nothing! Pumping iron isn't the only way to preserve or build some lean muscle mass, by the way. Even well rounded bodyweight... exercises done regularly in progression could help you improve muscle mass. But don't skip cardio! Cardio is one of the best ways to alleviate stress which could lead to excess fat storage. And if done in proper amounts and at the right times, can help lower excess body fat. You can achieve all of these benefits by planning and starting a fitness routine today. What matters is that you are in motion and making a step in the right direction. -
