Offshore anglers on the East Coast always keep an eye on the Gulf Stream and the warm-core eddies that spin off. Right now we're seeing a clockwise eddy off the Delmarva area. As we get closer to summer we hope the currents change with some counter-clockwise rotation to bring that warm water closer to shore for all the canyon hunters. Keep track of the currents on the FishTrack App or visit http://www.fishtrack.com/fishing-charts/mid-atlantic_61131.
The satellites are picking up a warm patch of water right off the Louisiana Delta with a notable temperature break at the Midnight Lump. However, the warm water is looking pretty dirty. The first image shows temperature, but checking the chlorophyll image (second photo) shows that a bit of blue water to the east might actually be a better option than the Lump. Always good to look at both temperature and chlorophyll to get a sense of the best possible location to find fish. Check out this super clear Sea Surface Temperature chart taken earlier this week of the Baja Peninsula. Clear skies = very good SST shots like this one. But even if it's cloudy, you can pull up a 'Cloud-Free' image on the FishTrack App to help you find the fish. For the latest Baja conditions visit http://www.fishtrack.com/fishing-charts/south-baja_69206.
Try these deadly tactics for West Coast wahoo.
On FishTrack you can layer data to help you plan a successful trip offshore. This image shows the chlorophyl levels (blue water) in the eastern Gulf, with current and bathymetry overlays. You can also click on weather buoys to get up-to-date offshore data. Make sure to download the FishTrack App or visit FishTrack.com for the latest intel.

This chlorophyl image with current overlay from October 18 shows a good bit of current south of Louisiana in the Gulf. The lighter blue indicates some subtle color changes. Targeting those color breaks where there's good current and structure is the key to finding big fish. Hopefully the weather let's you get out there!
