This is just such excellent footage! Both male dogs are intact. The Ridgeback is three. The Leonberger is one. There is nothing wrong with humping but the Leo failed to give play signals before humping at the beginning of the video. As you watch you will see that he gets more slick and offers a variety of behaviors. Most importantly he starts to signal that his intention is play with hip checks and paw slaps. Play serves a purpose -it's how animals practice survival skills. Both of these males are play fighting & practicing their "please let me hump you" moves.

It's impossible for me to do these things without narrating it a stupid dog voice... But this is a really good example of teaching the dog to give a Cut-off Cue and then honoring that cue. A platform is a wonderful tool for dogs with handling issues!!! It brings them up off the ground and gives them the ability to jump on when they are ready and leave when they are overstimulated.

Mourning the loss of a very special dog. Little Chloe lost her battle to brain cancer on Friday. She recovered from her brain surgery & tumor removal at UC David without a blip in her personality or a glitch in her step, but suffered a severe seizure late Thursday night. I first met this monkey when she was just a wee-pup and fit in my hand. Her kisses were gold and her goofy smile always warmed my heart & soul. It was a sudden loss after so much triumphant surgical success & my heart is broken. I can't believe she was snuggled up against me just a week ago snoring her silly little heart out All my love forever Chloe-Chloe-Chlo-Chlo
