May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. This month, we honor our heritage, which is rooted in #AAPIpower. AAPI power looks like: Asian American laborers fighting against corporate greed to earn workers’ rights. Pacific Islander communities working in the forefront of movements against militarization and fighting for decolonization. AAPIs showing up in solidarity with Black lives and other oppressed peoples.... Immigrants and refugees daring to dream and envision a world beyond which they know. Elders refusing the erasure of their culture by passing down language and traditions. AAPI youth imagining and working toward the creation of a world where we can all thrive. . Our #AAPIpower storytelling project aims to share and honor your story. Celebrate #AAPIpower with us by sharing a 50-200 word story of what #AAPIpower means to you. Throughout this month, we’ll be sharing and celebrating your stories of #AAPIpower. Learn more about our storytelling campaign and submit your story at www.aapiforce-ef.org/story. . Art by @et_iv . (Image: collage of past and present AAPI community members from youths to elders, whose photographs are meant to convey power in their everyday lives. The collage also shows our strength in resistance with signs with phrases such as Resist, #SchoolsNotPrisons, our land is sacred Throughout the collage are photos of colorful flora. Where would this country be without our workers? We are reminded today of the magnitude of their labor in our daily lives. Our celebration of #InternationalWorkersDay is also a reminder to our officials that all workers deserve fair wages, rights, and protections. Thank you for those who stood with us today, as we marched to call for the much needed health and safety protections for our CA domestic workers. Let’s continue to honor and empower our workers! #MayDay2021 #HealthandSafetyNow #SB321 #MyHealthMyDignity #domesticworkersareessential

Aggregated data about Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders** harms community members who are the most marginalized. Community organizers have been working hard... to visibilize COVID’s impact on AAPI communities and push for a just recovery which includes AAPIs. . In an article by Ada Tseng for the Los Angeles Times, we learned some stark numbers: Asian Americans made up 50% of San Francisco’s fatalities. Filipino nurses make up 70% of California’s nurse fatalities. The median income of Los Angeles Chinatown residents is $17k. . Local community organizers are keeping their communities safe and healthy through directed outreach and vaccination efforts: Southeast Asian Community Alliance (SEACA), Chinatown Service Center, UCI Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center: trusted within their communities, provided translators for onsite support AANHPI Health Initiative (Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council) : lobbied county government agencies for in-language resources, vaccine equity for seniors AANPHI Research Policy Team: fills in the gaps with disaggregated data Asian Health Services, PIVOT - The Progressive Vietnamese American Organization, One Nation Movement, Asian American Research Center on Health and Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations: created a language accessibility reporting form . In addition to these groups, we also want to shoutout COVID-19 vaccine access efforts by our partner organizations Asian Pacific Environmental Network (APEN), Chinese Progressive Association, Filipino Advocates for Justice, Hmong Innovating Politics (HIP), Khmer Girls in Action, Empowering Pacific Islander Communities, Jakara Movement, Pilipino Workers Center (PWC), VietRISE. **Health data about Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders is often aggregated with Asian Americans. To address disparities, Pacific Islander Covid-19 Response is a national group of NHPI researchers, health experts, community leaders and advocates formed to plan and implement infrastructure for informing and supporting families and communities about COVID-19. Every week they host Koviki Talk, a weekly webinar/podcast to facilitate connection and discussion between researchers and community members. We are not the enemy white supremacy is. You have to stop white supremacy by knowing when it shows up. This is why it is so important to continue building community and holding space for learning and discussion. Proud of our first Filipino in California State Legislature, now Attorney General Rob Bonta - former FAJ board member and always a champion for the people. We are excited to continue making strides together in leadership and representation of our community!

Healing with love and solidarity, from California. . The impact of the Atlanta murders overwhelmed our communities with painful emotions, reminding us once agai...n that white supremacy endangers us. When one of us hurts, we all hurt. . We’re thankful our community partners held space for our communities to honor the lives lost and to feel together. Hmong Innovating Politics (HIP), Chinese Progressive Association, Asian Pacific Environmental Network (APEN), Ocapica (Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance) . Knowing that we’re not alone is important; this will help us continue to dismantle harmful systems that don’t keep us safe or well. . Take a look at some loving images of unity. : Laotian American Community of Fresno - LACF Filipino Advocates for Justice Civic Design Studio (@civicdesignstudio510) AAPI Women Lead [Image descriptions in Alt Text] . Important message for us all repost from @powercanow . To all the young people that called, texted, had hard convos, shared their stories, and organized hundreds of thousands of people this year we hope you do one thing today: protect your energy. For those who couldn’t be in the streets or mobilize because we’re dealing with a global pandemic, economic recession and crises of government: protect your energy. It’s okay to turn off the TV, unplug and rest. We know the future we are fighting for.

We take care of each other. We always have, and we always will. While we continue to await the final results of the national, state and local elections, we cele...brate the power that we’ve built together. . Our movement to close corporate tax loopholes and invest in our communities by passing Prop 15 has gained historic victories. Black, AAPI, and LatinX leaders in education, healthcare, housing, immigrant rights, and youth empowerment organizations across the state came together to envision a better future by collecting 1.7 million signatures to put Prop 15 on the ballot. . The corporate-backed opposition outspent us by $20 million to fear-monger and spread misinformation. However, we built what could never be bought people power. . We talked to 34,000 AAPI community members and alongside our multiracial coalition, contacted nearly 500,000 low-propensity voters of color to put #CommunitiesOverCorporations. . WE are changing California, and WE are leading the path toward a future that represents us all. We met many volunteers, young and old, volunteering to call voters for the first time. We started a ripple, that over time, will turn into a tsunami for progressive change. . Building power doesn’t just happen every four years. It happens every day. Thank you for being in this movement with us. Together, we will continue taking care of each other and fighting for justice and liberation for our communities -- in our Golden State, and across the country. . #AAPIpowerCA . It’s possible that we may not know the results about the presidential election tonight and that’s okay. What we DO know is that together, our multiracial coal...ition of Black, LatinX, AAPI, and working class leaders across the state have been collaborating for years in a historic effort to close corporate property tax loopholes and invest in our communities. Tonight, we celebrate our accomplishments. Our coalition worked hard to target low-propensity voters of color, because we know that people of all races, language abilities, education levels, and income levels deserve to have their voices heard in the election. The corporate-backed opposition outspent us by $20 million, which was used to spread misinformation. However, we built what could never be bought people power. Join us tonight as we celebrate our accomplishments in our journey to put #CommunitiesOverCorporations. RSVP at yes15.vote/electionnight [image description: Graphic has a feel background, with a big banner that reads virtual election night party!. There is a collage of community organizers from various racial backgrounds and the Yes on 15 logo. Other text reads Tuesday, November 3rd 9pm-10pm PST. RSVP at yes15.vote/electionnight. Join the Yes on 15 coalition to celebrate and recognize our historic work!]

As we wrap up #fahm2020 , we move forward with hope, and empowered by the legacy of our leaders before us. Art and post by @leroid.david Lillian Galedo, activist, leader, community organizer, historian. In the 1970s after graduating from UC Davis, Galedo worked for numerous community organizations from advocating ethnic studies to supporting the residents of SF’s International Hotel. As an active member of KDP (Union of Democratic Filipinos), she fought against the Marcos d...ictatorship and for the rights of Filipinos in the US.
